A commemorative coin has sold for a whopping £21,000 online – and there are 10million more in circulation.
The Brexit 50p was released by the Royal Mint on January 31, 2020, to mark the UK leaving the European Union, reports the Express.
And, despite not being very rare, the coins have been selling for thousands of pounds just two years after being made.
The coin is a collectible as it marks out a significant moment in British history so it makes sense that coin collectors would want one.
The limited edition 50p has the Queen’s head on one side and the commemorative message “Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations” engraved on the back.
Plus, one oddity on the coins will make them even more valuable.
The original 10 million coins were supposed to be made with a date of “31 January 2020” but an original design showed the date “31 October 2019”.
Coins with the recalled date on them are even more profitable.
The date was changed because the date of Brexit was pushed back.
Around one million of the coins were made and entered circulation before the government realised the UK was likely to miss the Brexit deadline. So they tried to recall them all.

Many of the coins have sold on eBay for between £3,500 and £21,000. So get looking in your wallet and bags to see if you have one!
If you do, you have an important choice to make as the coins could increase in value over time.
Previously, the EC 50p coin – released in 1992 and 1993 – was valued at £60 by a coin collector which is a nice little pay day too.
