WASHINGTON – Like others – probably yourself included – Shea Whigham was blown away with Christian Bale’s insane transformation into our country’s 46th veep, Dick Cheney, in the movie “Vice.”

The actor joked about his reaction to first seeing Bale in character at Thursday’s premiere of the Neil Armstrong biopic “First Man” in D.C.

“I was like ‘Jesus, you’re fat!’ No, I’m kidding,” he said, laughing. “I love Christian.”

He continued, praising the Academy Award-winning actor for his talent. “This is the third thing we’ve done together,” Whigham said. “In my age group, it’s him and Joaquin (Phoenix), who I’m working with right now, that are incredible.”

“(Bale is) so committed to the process, and you’ll see when you see him as Dick Cheney,” he added. “He is incredible.”

Whigham is working with Phoenix on “Joker,” slated for a 2019 release. But unfortunately, the actor stayed pretty mum about the project.

When asked what he could divulge from that film, also featuring Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Marc Maron, Whigham retreated to the red carpet.

“I gotta go,” he said. “I can’t talk about the ‘Joker.’ ”

He was more willing to talk about the pressure he felt playing astronaut Gus Grissom in “First Man.”

“Of course there’s pressure,” he said. “You want to make sure you do him justice.”
