Indie-pop darling Charlotte Lawrence is back with a new single, “Stole Your Car,” the first song off of her upcoming project, Reckless. The track is a melancholy banger that boasts those chill, synthy, inescapable melodies the rising star does best. (Fans of her caught-you-cheating breakout hit “Sleep Talking” won’t be disappointed.)
The track shows a more impulsive and impassioned side to Lawrence’s lyricism as she goes to extremes over unrequited love. “‘Stole Your Car’ is about rebelling against the one person who you crave love and attention from that doesn’t give it back,” the 18-year-old tells BAZAAR.com.
The title is quite literal. She sings in the chorus: “I just stole your car and now you’re going crazy / That just broke your heart and now you’re gonna chase me / Should’ve texted me back when you had the chance, but now I just stole your car.”
The song was co-written by Lawrence, Koko LaRoo, Marco Borrero, and Louis Schoorl, and produced by Schoorl and MAG.

Lawrence has had a quick come-up since “Sleep Talking” went viral at the end of 2017. She quickly followed up with singles like “Just the Same” in January and “Keep Me Up” in May. She also landed a collab on 13 Reasons Why‘s Season 2 soundtrack. Her debut EP, Youth, arrived in June. Now, the LA native racks up 24 million monthly streams on Spotify.
