Boris Johnson announces new national lockdown
Lockdown restrictions were introduced to England by Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier this week, after a sharp rise in the number of coronavirus cases. Are you still allowed to take your dog for a walk in lockdown?
Johnson warned the UK that the new Covid variant was putting extra stress on the NHS.
He explained that previous tier measures were enough to handle the firsts variant of coronavirus.
But, after the introduction of a more transmissible mutant Covid virus, the restrictions weren’t keeping a handle on the rising infection rates.
That’s meant the UK has been forced to enter into a third national lockdown.

“Our hospitals are under more pressure from Covid than at any time since the start of the pandemic.
“With most of the country already under extreme measures, it is clear that we need to do more, together, to bring this new variant under control while our vaccines are rolled out.
“In England, we must therefore go into a national lockdown which is tough enough to contain this variant.
“That means the Government is once again instructing you to stay at home.”

Can I walk my dog in lockdown?
The Government has ordered everyone to stay at home, unless absolutely necessary.
You’re allowed to leave your house for exercise, to get essential food supplies, for medicine, or to escape from domestic abuse.
If you have a dog, you’re allowed to take them for a walk as part of your daily exercise.
But, if you do decide to take them for a walk, you should follow the social distancing rules in place.
You should stay at least two metres away from anyone outside of your household or your support bubble.
If you choose to walk in areas that are usually quite highly populated, you should put your dog on a lead to avoid coming into close contact with anyone else.
It’s also crucial that you wash your hands both before and after handling your dog outside of your home.
But, of course, the situation isn’t quite as simple as that, and it’s constantly evolving.
If you’re currently self-isolating, you shouldn’t take your dog for a walk.
You can either ask a friend or family member to take your dog for a walk, or contact a professional dog walker.
If you’ve been asked to walk somebody else’s dog, because they’re self-isolating, you should wash your hands immediately after handling their dog.
Don’t forget to keep at least two metres apart from the dog owner, and you should avoid entering their household.
