Baby ‘flips the bird’ in ULTRASOUND

What a rascal! Mother claims her son ‘flipped the bird’ in his BABY SCAN as revenge for being prodded into position by doctors – and he’s just as cheeky now at three months old

  • Baby Rudy Barnfield appeared to flip his middle finger in 20-week scan photo
  • Bethany Pollock, 26, from Gloucestershire joked it was directed at doctors
  • Amused parent joked that he gets cheekiness from his dad Craig
  • When he was born midwife immediately described Rudy as a ‘cheeky chappy’

A mother-of-one claims her ‘cheeky’ baby son hilariously ‘flipped the bird’ in his baby scan photo in revenge for doctors prodding and poking him all day.

Bethany Pollock, 26 and partner Craig Barnfield, 36, from Frampton on Severn in Gloucestershire, had not yet seen a clear scan photo of their baby, prompting a lot of prodding by doctors to get him into position.

And they were left stunned when he appeared to flip the finger when they finally saw him on the screen.

The black and white image shows Rudy Barnfield, now three months old, lying on his back with his right hand on his chest and what appears to be his middle finger pointed defiantly in the air.

In the 20-week baby scan, Rudy appears to be flipping his middle finger at his parents, Bethany Pollock, 26, and Craig Barnfield, 36

Like butter wouldn’t melt: The mum-of-one joked her son’s gesture was in revenge for all the prodding he was subjected to from the doctors

Bethany and Craig found the photo hilarious and joked the gesture was in revenge for all the prodding he was subjected to when docs tried to get him in the correct position.

The proud mum says her now 14-week-old son was always destined to be a character and that even her midwife labelled him a ‘cheeky chappy’ when he was born.

‘It just really tickles me,’ said Bethany. ‘It made me want to meet my little boy even more.

‘The minute he was born the midwife who lifted him up said ‘he’s a cheeky chappy’ and we just laughed. We already had that feeling about him anyway.’

She added: ‘I think every time we had a scan he always tried to get himself in the most awkward position for his scans – and always not looking at us.

An amused Bethany said that as soon as the baby scan picture (above) was printed, the couple looked at them and laughed

Baby Rudy weighed a healthy 8lb 9oz when he entered the world on September 2. Bethany always knew her now 14-week-old son was destined to be a character – even her midwife labelled him a ‘cheeky chappy’ when he was born

‘The one time he was in view he did that, it was quite amusing. At that scan they needed to get a view of his heart. He just wouldn’t stay still or get in the position that we wanted, and he ended up doing that as well.

‘It was almost as if he was like ‘I’m not going to do as I’m told. As soon as the pictures were printed and we looked at them we laughed.’

‘Me and his dad went to the scan together, we looked at the photos afterwards and saw it straight away.

The proud parents pose with their cheeky chap on his Christening Day. Bethany said she isn’t surprised that Rudy has a cheeky streak – as his dad Craig (above) has one, too!

Bethany plans to tease Rudy about his scan photo as he grows up. She said: ‘It’s really clear that he’s giving Mummy and Daddy the bird straight away’

‘They were really clear scan photos, and we even got one of his feet as well, it was quite astonishing how clear it was.’

Despite showcasing his defiance in the womb, Bethany said that the tot has yet to put on a repeat performance.

‘He doesn’t do the gesture now, he’s a wriggler and never stays still,’ explained the amused mum-of-one.

‘His hands are always moving but I’ve never caught that moment again as of yet.

‘He does do a lot of things with his hands and fingers. He’s a baby that can’t sit still and is always smiling.’

The shocked mum believes her son is going to be a chatterbox just like her. He’s already into everything and wanting to see how things work

But Bethany is not surprised that Rudy, who was 8lb 9oz when he was born on September 2, has a cheeky streak and claims he gets it from his dad, Craig.

‘I’ll probably tease him about his scan photo as he grows up,’ joked Bethany.

‘It’s really clear that he’s giving Mummy and Daddy the bird straight away.

‘I never for one moment thought this child wouldn’t have any character at all, I always thought there was going to be something about him.

‘His dad can be quite playful and cheeky and is a bit of a joker and I really see that in our son.

Rudy’s mum Bethany loves that her son is starting to show the same traits as her partner – including his playful and jokey nature

‘It’s those qualities you’re attracted to in your partner and when you see them in your son it’s lovely. It’s really, really nice to see.

‘I’m not worried about him being a teenager as such. I know he’s probably going to be like his daddy was.

‘His daddy was constantly into everything and always on the go. I’m not worried about it at all, I’m really excited about having a little boy who is really into everything.

‘I don’t ever think he’s going to be cheeky as in rude, but I do think he’s going to have a real personality about him.

‘I think he’s going to be a chatterbox like me and he’s just going to be very much into everything and wanting to see how things work. I think he’ll be really adventurous.’
