ASOS has been praised by social media users after offering staff flexible work and paid leave during the menopause.
The British online retailer’s support policy will also cover employees experiencing a whole range of other ‘health-related life events’ which require paid leave – including fertility treatment, pregnancy loss, cancer treatment and gender reassignment surgery.
The new gender-neutral policies, which have been commended online and are implemented on Thursday, will offer up to six weeks of paid leave for staff undergoing such treatments.
‘I think I might start shopping at ASOS just because they have great HR policies,’ wrote one.

Meanwhile, a second penned: ‘Hats off to #Asos for announcing gender neutral paid leave to staff during #menopause #pregnancyloss #fertilitytreatment’ – adding that it was a ‘welcome change.’
A third added: ‘ASOS offers staff flexible work and paid leave during menopause and other health related life ordeals.’
Among the new policies include paid leave for staff who have experienced a pregnancy loss or are undergoing fertility treatment – which is not limited to any number of cycles.
The retailer will allow staff who are dealing with pregnancy loss – such as miscarriages and abortions – to take 10 days of leave, while the policy also includes the other halves to those who were pregnant. Surrogate pregnancies will also be accounted for, The Guardian reports.

The company is also offering paid leave for any staff member hoping to escape domestic abuse situations.
Chief executive, Nick Beighton, commented: ‘All of us face unexpected challenges in life, and sometimes these can create very difficult circumstances which mean we need to step away from or change how we work.’
‘We’ve launched these new policies to reassure all Asosers that they will continue to be supported, personally and financially, throughout those difficult times.
‘We’re here, no matter what it is and every step of the way.’
The company released a statement adding: The new measures will ‘enable Asosers to take the time away from work that they need, while also increasing awareness of the impact of such common life events.’
