After recovering from obesity I am now struggling with bulimia

I am a male of 22 and I used to be very overweight. Boys used to call me names and I hated myself.

My only comfort was more food.

Then I conquered my weight problem by purging.

It worked and I lost a lot of weight, but it led to me bingeing and purging.

This has been going on for two and a half years now and I cannot stop.

I still live at home. I know my parents are very concerned, particularly my mum who tries to get me to eat a healthy diet.

I feel terrible for hurting them but part of me does not want to stop and I think this may be where the problem lies.

DEIDRE SAYS: The internal battle is part of the illness but of course you are damaging your health as well as feeling unhappy.

It is extremely difficult to overcome this problem by yourself so don’t struggle on alone.

Make a start in getting the help you need by contacting Beat (beateatingdisorders.org.uk, 0808 801 0677) who support anyone affected by eating disorders.
