A Teaser Trailer For Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ Has Been Released

“I used to think that my life was a tragedy but now I see that it’s a comedy.” So goes just one of memorable lines from the newly-released teaser trailer for Joaquin Phoenix’s new “Joker” movie due out this October.

For Joaquin Phoenix fans out there, life is about get pretty exciting around Halloween time this year. “Joker” stars Phoenix, is directed by Todd Phillips and tells the backstory about one of the most well-known (and perhaps misunderstood?) fictional villains in pop culture history.

According to The Verge, “Joker” gives insight into the lonely and bizarre life of Arthur, a down-on-his-luck comedian and one of Gotham’s most picked-on residents. Arthur somehow manages to maintain his wide smile despite getting beaten up in allies and subway rides.

“Is it just me, or is it getting crazier out there?” Phoenix as Arthur asks.

It’s not a secret that Warner Bros. studio has been trying to attain the level of epic proportion that its rival studio Marvel has when it comes to movie adaptations about classic comic book characters. In the past, Warner Bros. has found success with films such as the ‘Dark Knight’ Batman series which was directed and co-written by Christopher Nolan. The studio also tried to create its own world of original heroes and villains such as Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ but in 2017, Warner Bros. decided to focus more on standalone films.

‘Joker’ looks to be one of those standalone films. That said, we’ve heard a rumor that this film has been inspired by Martin Scorsese’s ‘Taxi Driver’ – just in case your interest wasn’t piqued enough. Critics as well as Joker fans have already began to comment that Phoenix’s portrayal of the green-haired meanie is more similar to Heath Ledger’s character rather than Jared Leto’s version from ‘Suicide Squad.”

But we’ll let you be the judge. After watching the trailer, do you think that Phoenix’s Joker falls more in line with Ledger’s character or Leto’s – or is Phoenix’s creation in a class of its own?

October 4th is when “Joker” hits the theaters so it’s perfect timing to get into the Halloween spirit.

Although this movie may change the way that you feel about smiling from now on, are you more excited to see Joaquin Phoenix’s chance at portraying this colorful character or learning the backstory of one of Gotham’s most interesting characters? Let us know in the comments!
