How to choose the right candle online?

There are a few things to consider before buying a candle for you or for a loved one.

First, think about what smells you enjoy, fragrance usually vary between woody, fresh, sweet or floral.

If you're buying it for yourself it's also worth thinking about where you plan to use it.

It's worth picking a bigger candle for a larger room, but you can get away with a small candle in a bathroom or bedroom.

Finally, think about your budget and compare prices online.

Some candles are cheaper than others but their burning time is usually shorter.

Other versions also come in stylish glass containers that can be reused to get your money's worth.

How to make candles last longer?

Believe or not but can actually make your candle last longer thanks to a few tricks.

Experts recommend trimming the wick of the candle to 1/4 of an inch before you use it for the first time.

That's because if your wick is longer than this and you have a jar candle (like the ones from Yankee Candle) you might end up with soot on the jar and a big flame.

And the very first burn is more than you think important.

You'll need to make sure your candle burns long enough to form a pool of melted wax across the surface of its container, ideally from one end to the other.

That's because the second time around, the wax pool will struggle to go beyond the circumference of the previous burn, so the bigger the pool the first time around the better.

Finally, try to keep the wax pool clear of any debris like matches to make sure your candle burns evenly.

How to use every last bit of your candle?

There's always a stubborn bit of wax that gets left at the bottom of the candle – but there's an easy way to get it out.

All you need to do is fill your candle with boiling water and watch as the heat melts the wax.

Once the wax has cooled down, you'll get a disc that you can just stick on another candle or reuse however you please.
