Usually the phrase “all work and no play” is said in a humorous setting and not meant to be taken seriously. For the Tesla CEO, this phrase is his life’s work. Numerous sources have hinted at Musk’s insane work ethic and even provided details of what a usual workday looks like for the billionaire. He works approximately 80 to 100 hours a week between his multiple companies! Musk went on to say in an interview that he rather work all day than sit and eat breakfast. Sure he owns Paypal, SpaceX, Tesla and a slew of other companies but this is humanly impossible. Musk, of all people, should know there are tons of foods that pack brain power. If he can’t even sit down for a hot meal, he should try snacking throughout the day.

With Elon Musk being one of the most influential billionaires of this century, we’re sure he has a huge amount of advice on running a new business. While building a company has its perks, it can be hard getting it off the ground, especially in the first few months of its public viewing. Selling the product even becomes a challenge. According to the billionaire, when selling a product, we shouldn’t be concerned with the marketing aspect but instead its overall quality. We should question whether or not the product will make a decent profit. We get his point about making a product that’s worth our wild but every company needs some level of PR, especially a starter-up business.

8 He Talks to Every Twitter User
We’ve all seen celebrities talk to their fans during interviews and on live Instagram feeds. Elon Musk, however, takes his Twitter game to an entirely new level. He believes in his rule of creating a “Feedback Loop”, which grants him access to all his followers on Twitter. Currently, Musk has 23.7 million followers on Twitter, which is a ton of people to talk to. He responds to tweets from everyday followers, which obviously breaks Twitter and the internet. Given his direct connection with fans and customers alike, he makes every single one of them feel just as important as the next one. We’re sure Musk can make anyone feel like a superhero. Listening to him during interviews literately puts us in a better mood.
7 Read A Ton Of Books
Speaking of Musk’s intelligence, his wisdom speaks volumes. In a few interviews, Musk has mentioned that he was a dedicated book-worm when he was younger. While we were out playing by the swing set, Musk was reading an entire Encyclopedia. His favorite book of all time is The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. Here’s a snippet of what he said from an interview, “I came to the conclusion that we should aspire to increase the scope and scale of human consciousness in order to better understand what questions to ask. Really, the only thing that makes sense is to strive for greater collective enlightenment.” That’s really enlightening. 6 Don’t Use Patents
Back in 2014, Musk made an announcement on Tesla’s company board, explaining that he planned to remove all patents from his companies. The billionaire promises not to sue anyone who wishes to use his invention for good and not evil. Elon Musk believes that such things as legal documentation halts progress in his mission to give customers the best of the best. Sure, lawyers make a pretty penny off our inventions but it’s better to be safe than sorry. One should always protect their property in the case that someone steals them. And we’re sure there are several competitors waiting to get their hands on Musk’s products!
5 Money Is Not The Endgame
Since money is no longer a priority for Musk, he spends his days thinking about the future. We guess it’s that kind of forward thinking that encourages our future billionaires to become something greater than their possessions. Given his thoughts on habitable planets, it’s not hard to see why Elon Musk is constantly searching for solutions for future problems that might negatively impact humanity. He may think money isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be, but to fund his research, continue building and expanding his companies, and solve some of the world’s biggest problems, one needs money. 4 If You’ve Got A Problem, Tell Everyone
At most companies, all employees are to direct their concerns and questions to managers. More often than not, problems never get solved and nothing gets taken care of. The line of communication among managers either gets lost in translation or in worst cases, it’s completely ignored. Elon Musk, however, has a rule that takes out the role of the manager completely. Rather than talking directly with our bosses and wait days on end for a problem to get solved, employees should feel comfortable enough to discuss their concerns with someone higher up. It should be more about who can get the job done faster. While this is a nice thought, it’s not exactly practical. For one, managers may lose their jobs because they’re no longer needed. This can not only impact the company but also the employee’s job as well.

3 Don’t Waste Your Time At Meetings – They’re Pointless
While most employers value meetings as an important communication bridge between them and their employees, Elon Musk thinks they’re just a big waste of time. In fact, he rather we didn’t bother with them at all. A few years ago, the Tesla CEO sent out a mass email to his employees containing a few tips on how to be successful at work. This is what Musk had to say, “Meetings are a blight on big companies and tend to get worse over time. Unless the meeting is of relevance and concerns the entire company, then don’t bother with it.” Most meetings are mandatory and walking out is a sure way to get an employee fired. Musk’s rules are a great sentiment but most of us can’t follow them.
2 You’d Better Have Great Communication Skills When Working For Tesla
First impressions are a big deal when meeting someone for the first time, so they’re especially important at an interview. Just about every employer values an employee that has great interpersonal skills. Improving our communication skills can lead to success anywhere we go. For those of us who have great speaking voices and a large vocabulary, we’re more than likely to get a job at Tesla. Musk went on to explain in his mass email that senseless jargon is a bad look on a company and essentially lowers one’s chances of becoming successful. Most employers might agree with this tip but Musk takes it to another level.

When applying for a job, the employer always makes their candidates jump through a series of hoops. One of them includes a company survey that requires the employee’s insight into what they’d do in certain job situations. Half the time they ask the question: “Do you believe it’s important to follow the rules?”. If we want the job, it’s best to check the answer ‘yes’. In Elon Musk’s case, he doesn’t believe in company rules. He rather we’d use common sense, rather than listen to our supervisor, especially if the rules are underdeveloped. Musk believes that following our instincts is critical to our growth in a company and may lead to our success. Some rules are meant to be broken after all!
