“My big thing as a parent is that … we read like crazy every night,” the actress, 48, told Dr. Avila of her routine with Violet, 14, Seraphina, 11, and Samuel, 8, on the Friday, August 28, episode of Dear Media network’s “Raising Good Humans” podcast. “I read with each of them separately. It’s, like, the one time a day I know that I can handle the rest.”

The Peppermint star went on to say that her “most avid reading buddy,” one of her daughters, stopped wanting to read with her “out of the blue.”

Garner explained, “When this [pandemic] all started, it just didn’t feel good to her. We have been sneaking and watching America’s Funniest Home videos on my phone. I even watched Austin Powers with her.”

While the Texas native “is not very proud of” her television time, she loves seeing her little one “laugh.” The Golden Globe winner told Avila, “We just have to remind our bodies of how to have joy, and I’m just letting it happen. She’s reading to herself. … It’s always been one of our main forms of connection, and I’m just letting it go right now and hoping that it’ll resolve.”

Garner has also been bonding with Violet, Seraphina and Samuel through meditation. “Sitting and just taking one good breath is as restorative as a fake 10 minutes just to please your mom,” she said on Friday. “And that’s been really, really helpful and then they can build on it as they want to, but at least it’s there in there somewhere. And it’s not any pressure.”
