What Does It Mean When You Don’t Relate To Your Star Sign?

If you’ve never related to horoscopes based on your star sign, it could be for a variety of reasons. While some deeply identify with their sign’s strengths, weaknesses, and signature traits, others aren’t too quick to believe all things zodiac. For example, one love-obsessed Libra might completely understand the romantic, deeply indecisive archetype, while an independent, straightforward Libra might think astrology is a hoax. So what gives? Skeptics chalk it up to astrology being pure fiction, but in truth, the answer is a lot more complex than that.

According to The Sun‘s zodiac columnist Kerry King, there are five signs in particular that tend to scoff at astrology’s existence, and who almost never believe their sign represents them. Being the most grounded and practical of all the signs, these five are typically the ones you would have to drag to a tarot card reading, and who prefer things you can actually see or touch (via Stylist). The culprits? None other than Aries, Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus, and Scorpio.

As earth signs, Capricorn, Virgo, and Taurus signs won’t usually believe in anything not pertaining to reality, unless their full birth chart includes an air or water rising or moon sign. They are most likely to be skeptics, preferring to steer clear of spirituality. On the other side of the spectrum, fiery Aries and Scorpio signs might feel superior to the idea of being labeled. Many Scorpios prefer to keep their inner selves hidden, while Aries enjoy challenging preconceived notions about them.

Reasons you don't relate to your sign

If you don’t identify with your sign but aren’t an Aries, Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus, or Scorpio, there are other possible reasons for the disconnect. For one, as Stylist explains, you might have been born in between two seasons. This means your birthday might be at the end of your sign, giving you traits of both your sign and the next. There will be influences from both ends, so you can read the next sign’s horoscope in case you identify more with it.

The most likely reason for your zodiac confusion, though, is that you are not reading your full astrological birth chart. A map that takes your birth time into consideration to analyze where each planet was the moment you were born, a birth chart includes other signs like your rising, moon, and Venus signs. The sign you likely know about is your sun sign, depicted in horoscopes and representing your “role” in life. But other signs are just as important: your moon represents your emotions, your rising shows how people see you, and your Venus is about who you are in love (via Allure). Getting the full picture is crucial in truly understanding the zodiac.

Moreover, as Stylist reports, NASA claimed that planets have significantly shifted positions since 3,000 years ago, meaning we might all be different signs than we think. Shifting forward about a month, it might be effective to check out your “new” sign in case you identify more with that one.
