TikTok is Losing It Over This Refreshingly Honest Birthday Invitation: 'Brought to You by Pinterest Fails & the Dollar Store'

Throwing a kids’ birthday party is…a lot. But are we the only ones who feel like the build-up to it — and really to any celebration you have to plan for someone else (We’re looking at you, bachelorette parties!) — is somehow the worst part? The anticipation (what will go wrong?!), the wrangling (who is picking up the cake and when?!), and the dreaded invitations.

Please, please, please don’t make us take care of the invitations. Maybe we’re just jaded, but writing them is such a headache. How many details do you include? Heck, what are the details? Do we really need special paper? Should clip art be involved? Do we mail ’em out or pass them around at school drop-off? Do we even do IRL invitations or are texts sufficient? And there’s the age-old question that applies to every message: How many exclamation points are too many exclamation points?!?!?!?! (Too much)?

A mom on TikTok shared a birthday invitation her kid recently received, and it’s *chef’s kiss.* It’s going viral for its sheer perfection, and we will definitely be using it as an outline going forward.  Commenters are obsessed with how honest it is and how it will (hopefully) bring everyone back to reality. “I’m glad a parent is finally lowering the standards/expectations because I’m done with these Pinterest/IG-inspired kid parties,” one person said, and we couldn’t agree more.

  • Epic Invite

On Saturday, a mom jumped on TikTok to share that her son got  “the most hilarious” birthday invitation.

“I need to share it,” she said before reading that her son was being invited to “[insert child’s name]’s” 5th birthday party.

These parents were not hiding anything, telling guests right away that this event would be brought to them by “Pinterest fails and the Dollar Store.”

“So please set your expectations appropriately.”

  • The Plan

The parents then quoted their child’s request saying the theme will be “unicorns but with rainbows and maybe bats but there should be princesses and also Minnie and we need dancing lights.”

…Got it. *Checks Pinterest for that exact request*

Guests are asked to “dress accordingly,” and commenters want to know how that will play out. “Someone better be dressed like a bat princess,” one person wrote.

  • The More Likely Plan

The parents are already anticipating that the Pinterest fails and Dollar Store decorations won’t be up to the group of 5-year-olds’ standards, so they have Plan B ready to go.

“Please pack a bathing suit, sunscreen, puddle jumpers, etc. in case your sweet baby angels decide our original plan sucks and the pool would be a better time”

  • Parent Involvement

Parents of invited kidods then have two options. They will be “entirely supported” if they decide to “drop off their kids and run.” Otherwise, they can stay and have “adult juice.”

“We will deny any offers to help to be polite,” the invite continues, “but deep down want the support. You do you.”

The woman who posted didn’t point this out but commenters are obsessed with the bottom of the invitation which says people can see that RSVPs should be directed to “Carys (rhymes with Paris)” or “Ryan (rhymes with Brian).”

“The ‘rhymes with’ help at the bottom is also amazing and hilarious 😂.”

And that concludes the most honest and enviable invitation we’ve ever heard.

“Needless to say, we will absolutely attending,” said the mom who shared the invitation. “Because these are my people. This is the kind of mom I can be friends with.”

Same! If there ends up being an extra opening we are totally there. We’ll even bring some adult juice.

  • Report Back

People are now begging the woman who posted this TikTok to report back after the birthday party. Because c’mon! We have to know if there end up being bats! And how many parents are going to drop and run?

“PLEASE update us when you attend… I NEED to know how this sick party rolls out!” one person said.
