This co-parenting setup is definitely not for the faint of heart. Popsugar reported that Lindsay Taylor, mother of four and stepmom to two, shares a home with both her former husband, Chris, and her current husband, Mike. That’s right, you read that correctly: Lindsay, her ex, and her husband co-parent their six kids. They all live together — and Lindsay says it’s the best solution for them. Gulp.
Some backstory: Lindsay had her first child at the age of 16, daughter Rachel. She then met Chris, whom she married. They had two kids, Lucas and Joanna. But the marriage didn’t last, and Lindsay went on to marry Mike (who had two kids, Destiny, 21, and Danny, 19, from a previous marriage). Soon Lindsay and Mike had a son of their own, Harrison. Whew. Still with us?
Lindsay told Popsugar, “After Chris and I got divorced, I moved in with my mom in central Massachusetts for a few months… We didn’t want the kids to move, so I spent my days driving back and forth to be with them. Mike and I got an apartment together with his kids, which was a little closer to my kids than where I was staying at my mother’s, but it wasn’t good enough.”
When the apartment that Mike and Lindsay were renting suddenly went into foreclosure, Lindsay had a heart-to-heart discussion with her ex, Chris.
“I sat down with Chris the next day and told him what was happening and we spoke about looking for a new place,” she said. “He was the one who suggested for all of us to move into his house in northeast Connecticut. He said that it wouldn’t be easy at first, but in the long run it would be the best ideal situation for our kids to have both parents under one roof again.”
“Everything happens for a reason, and after Harrison was born, Mike, Lucas, myself, and the baby basically moved to Boston for four months for Lucas to have a bone marrow transplant,” Lindsay told Popsugar. Lucas, suffers from a rare immunodeficiency disorder, chronic granulomatous disease (CGD). “Chris came in and out as much as he could, but he also had to be home for Joanna and Rachel.”
The family held it all together — as a team.
“Destiny and Danny helped out so much with childcare, and chores,” Lindsay said. “After the transplant, our family was in strict isolation for nine months straight. That was a little stressful to say the least, but here we are. We made it through what will probably be THE hardest year of our lives.”
Lindsay told Kidspot that living together helps ensure continuity and easy care for Lucas.
Kidspot reported that Lindsay said it was all remarkably smooth sailing. “Chris is very open-minded, so for him, this wasn’t a big deal at all — it just made sense,” Lindsay told the Australian outlet.
The entire big, blended family is currently living in a five-bedroom home. “We have a big house, but it’s still not big enough,” laughed Lindsay to Kidspot.
“Mike and I have always said we couldn’t do what Chris does,” she added. “It must take a lot to live with your ex-wife and her new husband.”
