This Mom Just Gave Birth AT a Pink Concert

Wow, folks. A U.K. mom and die-hard Pink fan by the name of Denise Jones just put me and my mid-pop-concert-breast-pumping to shame. (And I am honestly very proud of my abilities to hand-pump in the bathroom of Madison Square Garden, but that’s a story for another day). This mom scoffs at your mediocre mid-concert breast-pumping, or diaper-changing, or what have you — because this mom just pulled off a mid-pop-concert childbirth, people. Denise Jones just gave birth while at a Pink concert in Liverpool. Oh, and Jones named the baby Dolly Pink. Because of course.

Apparently Pink opened this particular concert with “Let’s Get This Party Started,” as she is wont to do, and baby Dolly Pink took that as something of a call to action; Jones immediately went into labor.

And hey, she was luckier than most of us moms (24-hour labor right here, hi): “It took less than five minutes,” paramedic John Matthews, who along with paramedic Dani Berg arrived on the scene to help Jones at the stadium, told the Liverpool Echo. “We didn’t have time to get concerned or worried, we just had to crack on and get on with it. There was no equipment in the first aid room, just a couple of beds. This doesn’t happen very often and I’d never delivered a baby in Anfield before. When things go well, it’s always a good feeling.”

And things did go well: Both Dolly Pink and supermom Denise Jones are healthy and doing great. Jones told the Echo (from her hospital bed): “I’m still massively in shock, just a bit gutted I missed the concert! But I couldn’t be any happier right now! The plan was to call her Dolly Louise but since she was born in the concert we’ve changed it to Dolly Pink.”

Berg told the Echo that fellow concertgoers actually carried Jones out of the crowd when it was clear she was about to give birth. “It was very different compared with what we’re used to dealing with at the matches… If it hadn’t been for them, we would have had to deliver the baby in the main stand with 4,600 people watching us.” Um, nightmare? That makes last year’s hospital hallway birth seem quite private and luxurious by comparison.

You know that ice-breaker “game” when you’re trying to do team building at work or whatever and everybody has to go around and say what their first concert was? Will anyone in the history of awkward co-worker icebreakers ever top Dolly Pink’s first concert story?? “Yeah so I was just chillin, swimming in my amniotic fluid, you know, same-old same-old for 40 whole weeks, and then suddenly I was born and got to see Pink perform live! Pretty cool.” Meanwhile all her coworkers in 2045 will be like, “um, I went to a Phish concert with my parents when I was seven? That was kind of cool?”

Anyway. Kudos to mama Jones and baby DP both. And we can’t wait to see what the amazing (and ever-compassionate towards fans) Pink has to say about the newest, littlest, and most determined addition to her fan crew.
