Shawn Johnson Admits Pregnancy Is ‘Really Scary’ After Suffering Miscarriage

Shawn Johnson and her husband, Andrew East, are expecting their first child together — but the Olympian admitted that pregnancy is “really scary” for them after suffering a miscarriage in October 2017.

“It is really scary for us just because of what happened last time, but we’re just praying that this one … that we make it all the way. We’ll see,” the Dancing With the Stars season 8 winner, 27, said on her Instagram Story on Thursday, April 4.

She added: “We’ve gone to the doctor now three times and we’ve checked blood work and everything and everything looks good, so we’ve been very cautious as to when we were going to announce. We feel like we’re in a very good spot.”

That being said, the gymnast said that being “cautiously optimistic” hasn’t been very easy for her. “I want to be so excited and I am, but I’m also just very realistic that things can happen, and I’m just kind of taking it one day at a time,” she said. “I know God’s got a plan for us.”

For now, the Winning Balance author is “feeling pretty good.” While she’s “a little nauseous,” Johnson said that’s “getting better every week.”

She and East, also 27, debuted her baby bump earlier that same day. “We cannot WAIT to welcome you to the world and shower you with love,” Johnson captioned the reveal photo. “@andrewdeast WE DID IT!”

In the announcement pic, the Johnson cradled her baby bump in a floral dress while the Washington Redskins player pointed at her stomach with a smile.

“Coming 2019,” he posted on his own account, sharing a video of the couple panning from their feet up to their excited faces.

In October 2017, the couple, who tied the knot in 2016, revealed that they had lost their baby shortly after finding out they were expecting.

“I felt sad and I remember telling Andrew, ‘I’m sorry I lost your baby,’” Johnson said in a YouTube video at the time. “I felt like it was something that I did … I didn’t take care of the baby well enough, or I was stressed out too much, or I didn’t take the right prenatal vitamins.”

Now that they’re expecting, Johnson is ready to find out whether she and the professional football player are having a boy or a girl. “We already have the results, [but] we haven’t opened them yet,” she said on her Story. “We want to do a big gender reveal and we have no idea how to do it. I want to find out now.”
