Royal Baby! Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry Welcome Their First Child

Officially parents! Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry welcomed their first child together on Monday, May 6.

“We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019,” the pair wrote on Instagram. “Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.”

The palace added in a statement: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 0526hrs. The baby weighs 7lbs 3oz. The Duke of Sussex was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news. The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

In October 2018, the palace announced that the former Suits star, 37, was pregnant.

“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019,” the statement read. “Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”

Hours after Meghan’s pregnancy news broke, the duchess debuted her baby bump in Australia during the couple’s first royal tour Down Under.

A source close to the duke and duchess previously told Us Weekly that Meghan and Harry, 34, plan to give their baby “the most normal life as possible.”

“Harry is keen to keep them away from life in the public eye,” the source explained. “Their children will still have security, that won’t change. They will still live a life of luxury, but that doesn’t meant their children will be spoiled. They want their kids raised in a normal home.”

The source added that Meghan “doesn’t want kids that don’t experience the real world.”

“She will take them on a subway. They will have chores, and jobs one day,” the source told Us. “For them, starting with the titles, it’s about as much normality as possible. It’s about not morally coddling royal children as they have in the past.”

Meghan and Harry tied the knot in May 2018.
