Rachel Platten Is a Mom! Singer Welcomes Daughter Violet Skye: 'Busy Falling Deeply in Love'

Rachel Platten‘s “Fight Song” has extended into motherhood.

The singer-songwriter has given birth to her first child with husband Kevin Lazan, she announced Wednesday on Instagram.

Daughter Violet Skye Lazan arrived “delicious and cuddly” in the early morning hours on Saturday, Jan. 26.

“There is so much about this massive love that I want to share but don’t yet know how to. I am sure the words will come soon,” Platten captioned a photo of herself cuddling Violet on her chest.

“For now we are busy falling deeeeply in love (and keeping our heads above water). Thank YOU all so much for your kindness and support and curiosity and gentleness as I fumbled my way through this crazy brutal amazing journey to get here to motherhood. Wow. I’m a mom.”

Platten, 37, announced her pregnancy in July, sharing a bare baby-bump photo and admitting she felt “fear” and “total bliss” simultaneously.

“The truth is, I am overwhelmed with love, joy and happiness about our baby. It’s a total miracle that I’m growing a human and my husband and I couldn’t be more thrilled,” she wrote. “But, I have also had an incredibly difficult spring and summer with serious nausea, exhaustion, constant sickness and all the awful symptoms no one wants to really talk about when sharing the ‘perfect blessed journey’ of pregnancy.”

“I was so afraid that if I shared that part (the difficulty of flying and performing while puking in green rooms and airplanes) that I’d seem ungrateful somehow when I’m actually crazy full of gratitude — I’m just HUMAN,” Platten explained. “Human emotions are complex. We can feel more than one thing at once you know? We can hold both love and wonder and aw and joy, but also frustration and sickness and fear and darker stuff too and it’s normal!”

The songstress appeared on Good Morning America in October, where she revealed for the first time the sex of the baby she and husband Lazan were expecting. “I’m having a girl!” an enthusiastic Platten said, her baby bump visible in a blue strapless dress. “Yay!”

On Dec. 17, Platten reached out to her Instagram followers to share a bump photo and request their stories about childbirth — specifically, “the beautiful amazing moments in the midst of the raw [realness] of it all.”

“There are so many birth stories out there to read about but a lot of them have trauma (rightly) mixed in. I know that can and might be part of it because … labor certainly seems like it can be traumatic,” she wrote. “But what I’m looking for and hungry for are JUST the beautiful amazing moments in the midst of the raw [realness] of it all.”

“Wanna help me fill my heart up with all of that? Please share below!!!!,” Platten continued in the caption. “I asked you to be vulnerable once and you guys responded so bravely and the comments comforted me in dark moments over the past couple of weeks so ummmm hi can you do it again? I love you a LOT.”
