Pregnant Mandy Moore Opens Up About How Her This Is Us Role 'Pseudo-Prepared' Her for Motherhood

Mandy Moore knows no one can ever be 100 percent prepared for parenthood, but she's going into it with an open mind — and sharing how her This Is Us TV role has helped her prepare.

On Friday, the actress opened up about her pregnancy to Hoda Kotb while on the Today show, expressing her excitement over the fact that she and husband Taylor Goldsmith will welcome their first child, a baby boy, in 2021. Moore then revealed how her beloved character as the "matriarch" of the onscreen Pearson family has influenced her approach to becoming a mom.

"Playing a matriarch of a family for the last five years and getting to see children at various different chapters and stages, I feel like I'm as pseudo-prepared as I can be," said Moore, 36, of playing Rebecca Pearson. "I've had babies and toddlers and adult children [on the show], so I've gotten a pretty good taste and lay of the land."

As for the "unsolicited advice" she has gotten from parents she knows in real life, "I'm all for it!" she added. "I will welcome anything because I know nothing. I'm like a sponge — I wanna soak it all up."

Chrissy Metz Was "Emotional" to Learn About Mandy Moore's Pregnancy: It Was "Really Special"

Moore went on to detail what it was like hiding her baby bump on set, saying, "I'm sure you'll see Rebecca carrying a lot of laundry baskets and oversized purses and God knows what for the next couple of months! I've also heard that they can go in and digitally change things, if need be, but I'm guessing it'll be a lot … less full-body [shots]."

Having been "so sick" in her first trimester, the "When I Wasn't Watching" singer told Kotb, 56, that she's "feeling much better now" that she's approaching her third trimester.

And while she and Goldsmith, 35, are excited to become parents, Moore admitted "it's hard to imagine" what things will be like with their baby boy when he actually gets here. But she has a few ideas.

"My husband is a musician, so the idea of being able to have music be this through line in [the baby's] life is really exciting," she said. "To be able to bring him on the road with us is an exciting prospect. And holidays — we're at the beginning of the best season of the year, and I think about traditions and the way we're gonna be a family together. It's so exciting."

Moore and Goldsmith, who tied the knot in November 2018, revealed their exciting baby news on Instagram in September, sharing a set of sweet black-and-white photos featuring the couple beaming and showing off the "Fifteen" singer's baby bump.

"Baby Boy Goldsmith coming early 2021 💙," Moore wrote in her caption at the time.

Many of the mom-to-be's This Is Us costars took to the comments to congratulate her — like Chrissy Metz, who used the opportunity to give a sweet nod to her onscreen mom with, "The Goldsmith Three! ❤️💓❤️."

"Baby's comingggggg❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️," added Susan Kelechi Watson, while Sterling K. Brown said, "So happy for the both of you. You and Taylor will be terrific parents … but you told me awhile ago, so … 😁"
