Paris Hilton Went Undercover to Keep Her Son's Birth Under Wraps

Paris Hilton knows a thing or two about growing up in the limelight, and now she is doing what she can to keep her son’s life private. Or as private as it can be as the son of one of America’s most-recognized media personalities.

So when Hilton and her husband Carter Reum prepared to welcome a son via surrogacy in Jan. 2023, Hilton reached for a brunette wig and a hoodie. Dressed in her disguise, the mom-to-be chose a fake name to use at the hospital.

“My entire life has been so public,” Hilton told Harpers Bazaar in a cover story. “I’ve never had anything for myself. We decided that we wanted to have this whole experience to ourselves.”

And it really was just to themselves. No one besides Hilton, Reum, and their surrogate knew about the baby boy — not even immediate family. For a blissful 48 hours, the new family of three adjusted to newborn life on their own. Hilton told Harpers Bazaar that not even her house staff were there. They had left thinking the house was being painted.

“I want to protect him and to be with him every second,” she said. “You have this mother instinct that kicks in, which I’ve never had before. I feel so complete now.”

Paris then announced their son’s birth on Instagram with the caption “You are already loved beyond words 💙” alongside a photo of her newborn’s hand gripping one of her beautifully manicured fingers.

“It’s always been my dream to be a mother and I’m so happy that Carter and I found each other,” Hilton told PEOPLE after the announcement. “We are so excited to start our family together and our hearts are exploding with love for our baby boy.”

In an interview with PEOPLE in Nov. 2021, she said she couldn’t wait to start a family with Reum.

“I feel like Carter and I are puzzle pieces getting connected,” she continued. “I never thought I’d meet a man like him, who loves me for Paris and not Paris Hilton. He’s going to be the best husband — and the best dad.”

The new parents expect to have even more children. When Hilton had her interview with Harpers Bazaar in December, she was tired and cramping from her morning visit to her fertility clinic. She had just completed a seventh egg retrieval and told the publication she is determined to have a daughter one day.

If that does happen, she already has a name picked out. In a Jan. 2021 interview on The Trend Reporter with Mara podcast, Hilton said she would name a future daughter London.

“I really do believe that having a family and having children is the meaning of life,” she said.

And so now, she told Harpers Bazaar, she is “more interested in babies than billions.”
