Starting as a catchy jingle the Baby Shark song grabbed children’s attention, and soon became a social media challenge.
The song, about a shark family, became a hit with children and adults around the world.
But what’s it about and why has it grabbed everyone’s attention?
What is the baby shark song?
The baby shark song was created by a YouTube channel called Pinkfong – a Korean channel for kids. It makes videos of sing-along songs and dances.
The educational channel, which has more than 10 million subscribers, creates bright and colourful videos to help children learn through the use of the cartoon Pinkfong, a prince from the planet Staria.
The song was first released in November 2015, but became viral in south east Asia last summer.
This year it’s taken off in the UK and around the world racking up more than 1.6bn views.
It’s also in the top most-viewed videos ever on the site.
Is the Baby Shark challenge dangerous?
Experts have warned it is dangerous to walk alongside a car as seen in the viral videos.
“It’s simply dangerous to be jumping out of your moving car to perform this dance,” Jordan Foster, a cyber safety expert and child psychologist told The New Daily .
Despite this people have continued to post them under #babysharkchallenge.
