North West's Church Performance Had a Major Flaw

Get we get an amen? On April 7, North West sang a Stevie Wonder song at her dad Kanye West’s weekly church service and it was pretty much the sweetest thing — except her mic wasn’t on. Oops. Maybe scratch that “amen.”

North, 5, was rocking an orange ensemble with white sneakers as she grabbed the mic in front of her grinning dad and sang the lyrics to Wonder’s “As” with what seemed to be a full choir in the background. Hey, who cares if we can’t exactly hear her? Her stage presence was plenty. Check out the video posted to Snapchat by her proud mama, Kim Kardashian West:

Kardashian West shared a few clips of her firstborn, including one of North hauling the mic stand down the aisle and grabbing the mic again. “Omg she’s trying to get front & center,” Kardashian West said in one caption (which included the go-to laugh-cry emoji, naturally).

North is a frequent attendee (and, apparently, scheduled performer) at her dad’s huge Sunday services. Her parents (read: her mother, of course) were recently shamed because North wore some seriously Goth-powered black lipstick to the kinda-church event.

If you’re puzzling over this “weekly church service,” hey, we kinda are too. This is the new Sunday routine for the Kardashian West posse, an event that Kanye started hosting back in January 2019. Kim Kardashian West told Elle that Kanye’s service is less about religion and more about healing.

“It’s honestly more like a healing experience for my husband,” Kardashian West of KKW Beauty said. “It’s just music, there’s no sermon. It’s definitely something he believes in, Jesus, and there’s a Christian vibe. But there’s no preaching. It’s just a very spiritual Christian experience.”

Kardashian West did not elaborate on what details exactly make the weekly star-studded event “Christian,” exactly. (Seriously. Star-studded. Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Kid Cudi, Courtney Love, and of course a bunch of Kardash-Jenners have been in attendance, according to Elle.) And all the matching robes are a little, omg, can we say it? Cult-y?

But Kardashian West insisted that the vibe is Christian. “Kourtney’s best friends come all the time and they’re Muslim. All my Jewish friends came on Sunday, they loved it. Everyone that comes understands it’s just a really healing experience with an amazing choir and amazing messages about love to start off your week.”

But…no preaching…so how can there be messages? And what makes it Christian, and not multifaith, then?

Okay, fine, sometimes a Kanye service is just a Kanye service. Who are we to say? Kanye is now planning to lead an Easter Sunday service (!!!) at Coachella, on April 21, the festival’s second weekend. Well, that’s pretty Christian. So is, uh, having lots of kids. Rumor has it Kim and Kanye have a fourth child on the way via surrogate.

Will North be there? And will someone turn her mic on, pretty please?
