Being a mum is tough work. As newborn babies require so much of your attention, it can be difficult when you have other things you need to take care of too.
One mum has shared a clever trick she’s been using to keep her little one sleeping soundly so she can have a shower or make herself a coffee.
Melissa Dykstra, from the Gold Coast in Australia, shared the hack on a Facebook group where it’s since gone viral – and been widely praised by parents.
She wrote: "Going on 20 minutes now and she hasn’t realized. She will crack it when she wakes up but for now I get to finish my coffee!! #babyhack"
All she does is rest a blown up rubber glove on her one-month-old daughter’s belly, in place of her own hand, so she can grab a few precious minutes – genius.
The post has over 10,000 comments on the Baby Hints and Tips page, with mums writing messages like "brilliant", "gold" and "why didn’t I think of this before!".
It turns out Melissa isn’t the only one to come up with a clever trick like this, as other mums confessed to using objects like hot water bottles, doorstops and even shoes to keep their little one asleep.
Speaking to News.com.au, Melissa said she’s grateful for her smart hack as it gives her enough time for a shower or coffee.
"I did sit with her and she wasn’t upset when she woke up, just looked a little confused," she said.
"She’s going through her first ‘leap’ (in her mental development) so she’s been extra clingy the last few days
"[It] makes it so hard to even go to the bathroom so I thought I’d try it and I was surprised at how well it worked."
Given that we all have a spare rubber glove knocking about somewhere, this is definitely worth a try…
