Mindy Kaling's Cool-Mom Dreams Have Officially Come True

The Office and The Mindy Project alum Mindy Kaling revealed on Twitter that she had a lifelong dream of becoming the “cool parent” with “the fun house” and the “coolest backyard.” We’re going to take that a little further and hereby crown Kaling our pick for coolest celeb mama out there. And we’ve got the proof to back it up.

2. Total secrecy about her baby’s paternity? Yep. Kaling declines to offer up that information, although some still speculate that Kit’s godfather — Kaling’s ex and dear friend B.J. Novak (The Office) — would be the most exciting and romantic reveal ever. Not that we ever expect a reveal, because Kaling is too cool for that.

3. Kaling chose a godfather who is also a hot ex-beau. See above. Power move, reserved for the coolest moms. Do not try this at home. Kaling told Good Housekeeping, “…The truth is that B.J. is so much more like family now than a platonic friend. He’s the godfather to my daughter, he comes over like once a week. Sometimes he’ll come over just to hang out with her.” Sure, just for little Katherine. We know.

4. Kaling — who is still working her tail off, as ever, with a new autobiographical series — is very careful about Katherine’s privacy. But sometimes, sometimes, a social media miracle happens, like on March 31, when Kaling posted this shot of her with her “little” on a “lazy Sunday.” In freaking MATCHING PAJAMAS. Way to keep us wanting more, Kaling.

A lazy Sunday with my little ?

Kaling told InStyle about the matching PJs, “Before I had a child, I’d eye roll until I died if I saw anybody in matching clothes [with their baby] and now, I love it. But I think I won’t do it when she gets older than two. Whenever you see an eight-year-old matching with her mom it’s a little bit more cringe-y.” And yet, somehow, we think Kaling and Katherine could pull it off. That is a whole new level of cool parenting, people.

5. Kaling loves mom jeans and isn’t afraid to tell the world. She told InStyle, “I am so dead if low-rise jeans come back. Low-rise jeans coincided with me being 14, 15, 16 years old, and to be a chubby teenager and have an insanely low-rise jean, it was horrible. It is triggering, in fact. I love my like, 9-inch-rise jeans that come all the way up to my belly button. Ugh, I love them.”

And we love you, Mindy Kaling. Mom on, lady. You rule.
