Former Spice Girl Melanie “Mel B” Brown is scary good at parenting without a partner.
“Single moms, we do it all,” the 43-year-old told Us Weekly at an America’s Got Talent live taping in Los Angeles Tuesday, August 21. “We have to be the mom, the dad, the provider. We have to make sure they’re in check and that they do their homework. Pack their lunch. Buy clothes. You have to do everything. So props to all the single parents out there.”
The singer, who is a judge on the NBC reality competition series, is mom of Phoenix, 19, Angel, 11, and Madison, 6. Phoenix’s dad is Jimmy Gulzar, Angel’s dad is actor Eddie Murphy and Brown shares Madison with ex-husband Stephen Belafonte, with whom she had a contentious custody battle.
The British star laughed at the idea that being a single mom makes you stronger. “It just makes you very frantic!” she quipped to Us. “But hopefully stronger in the end.”
In May, Brown opened up about her modern family. “I’ve got three daughters by three different solids relationships. I would never want to talk bad about any of their fathers,” she revealed on U.K. talk show Loose Women. “We made beautiful babies together and all three babies were made with a lot of love.”
The Dancing With the Stars alum and Belafonte, 43, split in March 2017 after nearly a decade of marriage.
America’s Got Talent airs on NBC Tuesdays, at 8 p.m. ET. Brown shares the judges table with Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell.
