Kurt Russell Reveals What Kate Hudson's Baby Rani Can Expect on Christmas

Kate Hudson’s family isn’t lacking in holiday cheer. Every year, the brood gets together on Christmas Eve to trim the tree and eat a big meal. But this year is extra special as Hudson, 39, and her boyfriend, Danny Fujikawa, will be bringing their 6-week-old daughter, Rani Rose, to the festivities.

“The kids put on their pajamas and they hang up their stockings and we got the fire going,” Kurt Russell told Us Weekly and other reporters at Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles premiere in L.A. on Sunday, November 18. (Russell, 67, has been with Hudson’s mother, Goldie Hawn, since 1983, and he helped raise the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actress and her brother, Oliver Hudson.)

Once the sun has set, the group gathers around for a story. “We always choose to read Twas the Night Before Christmas,” Russell explained. The actor, who plays Santa Claus in the Netflix film, noted that when the children hear a bell ringing outside, it means Saint Nick is approaching the home.

“The pandemonium sets in,” the Overboard actor said. “They panic and run upstairs and jump in bed and get under the covers. And then, of course, you have the magic of the next morning and seeing all the gifts and it’s just special.”

There will be lots of presents to open this year. Kate Hudson is also mom of son Ryder, 14, and Bingham, 7, with exes Chris Robinson, and Matt Bellamy, respectively. Splitting Up Together star, Oliver, 42, shares Wilder, 11, Bodhi, 8, and Rio, 5, with is wife, Erinn Bartlett.

Russell acknowledged this holiday season is especially exciting for Kate. “It’s her first daughter. She’s got two boys,” he said. “She’s a little different with the little girl. We’re really happy that she got [a girl] . . . and we’re proud of Danny and the relationship.”

Oliver agreed wholeheartedly. “It’s definitely something that she wanted, and she got it, you know what I mean?” he revealed. “It’s just fun to have a whole different crew. I had a daughter on my third kid as well and it’s a totally different ballgame!”
