Kristen Bell’s Sex Talk With Her Kids Didn’t Go According to Plan

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard’s sex talk with their daughters Lincoln, 5, and Delta, 3, didn’t go according to plan.

“We said, ‘Well, mom has a vagina, and dad has a penis and there’s sperm, and an ovum and then they connect and it makes a baby,” Bell told Us Weekly at the ceremonial lighting of the Empire State Building in New York City on Thursday, September 27. “Truly, by the second sentence, they had walked outside.”

Though The Good Place actress, 38, and Shepard, 43, could have used more kid-friendly language, the couple made a pact when Lincoln was born. “We decided when we had kids to be very, very honest with them and never to sort of spin a fairytale, even if it’s about hard subjects,” Bell explained.

Bell, who attended Thursday’s event in support of the Women’s Peace & Humanitarian Fund, also opened up to Us about her occasional marijuana use. (Earlier this month, the Bad Moms 2 star revealed on the “WTF With Marc Maron” podcast that weed is her “drug of choice,” and she indulges in front of a 14 years sober Shepard.)

“First of all, marijuana is legal in California,” the Veronica Mars alum pointed out. “I take a CBD tincture every day because I truly believe in the healing powers of that plant and it has no psychotropic effects.” (CBD oil is made out of hemp and is legal in all 50 states.)

As for smoking pot in front of her children, Bell stressed that has never happened. And it never will. “It is an adult-only activity,” she told Us. “But it does beg the question why we’re so accepting of alcohol. A lot of people drink around their kids, and we never question that.”
