Kim Kardashian Talks Navigating TikTok With Daughter North — & The One Thing Kanye May Have Been 'Right' About

Celebrities are just like us when it comes to parenting in the age of social media, and Kim Kardashian is no exception. She tries to keep her eldest daughter North West safe when it comes to their joint TikTok account @kimandnorth, which is “managed by an adult” and has comments disabled, but even she makes mistakes sometimes. She recently opened up about how she navigates TikTok — and the one thing that her ex Kanye West may have actually gotten “right.”

In a cover story for TIME, the SKIMS founder admitted that “sometimes it’s trial and error” when it comes to her kids and social media. Most recently, involving a visit with rapper Ice Spice and the not-for-kids lyrics that North rapped along to in a video that has now been deleted from TikTok. West publicly called her out on it, and that made Kardashian realize what had happened.

“As soon as I saw the words, I was like, ‘Oh no, we’re taking this down,’” she told the outlet. “I saw on the internet, [people saying] ‘Kanye was right,’ and maybe he was in that instance.”

At the same time, Kardashian doesn’t want to limit North’s ability to be on TikTok. “But she loves making slime videos and doing her little hair tutorials, and I will fight for her to be creative.”

This isn’t the first time Ye has spoken up about his daughter being on TikTok. In a now-deleted Instagram from Feb. 2022, West posted a screenshot of a TikTok, writing in all caps: “SINCE THIS IS MY FIRST DIVORCE I NEED TO KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO ABOUT MY DAUGHTER BEING PUT ON TIK TOK AGAINST MY WILL ?”

Kardashian talked about her social media in an interview on the GOOP podcast in Dec. 2022.

“I think every family is different, even within my family. How Kourtney operates, how Khloé operates, how Kylie — we always say every family is different,” she said, per PEOPLE. “With social media, it is hard because all the cousins, all my nieces and nephews, they’re all best friends with my kids. They’re all the same ages. So if Penelope has a TikTok, North wants a TikTok, and all the girls at school have a TikTok.”

She went on, “However, I have made a rule with their dad [Kanye West] about it — he’s not happy about that. I respect that. But it can only be on my phone. It’s not something where she can scroll and look at things. We don’t do comments.”

  • Parenting Isn’t Easy

At the end of the day, we’re all doing our best…and it’s not always easy.

On an interview on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, Kardashian accurately summed up it by saying: “Parenting is really f—ing hard. That’s the only way I can describe it.” Yes, girl!

She added, “It is the most rewarding job in the entire world. It is. There is nothing that can prepare you. … I don’t care how long you wait. I don’t care what you’re waiting for. You are never prepared.”

Sometimes, we mess up. And props to Kardashian for admitting she made a mistake, fixing it, and moving on. That’s not always easy to do — especially if you’re dealing with a problematic ex like West — and we are seriously impressed.
