Kidstrology: Your Parenting Horoscope for December

Winter is here, and with a vengeance. December opens with a somewhat temper-tantrum vibe, as Venus meets Scorpio head-on, unleashing plenty of intense energy. This brings with it a strong potential for jealousy, possessiveness and obsession, especially with toddlers and teenagers. (Then again, are they ever not jealous or possessive?)

On the 6th, with Mercury no longer retrograde, setting boundaries will be easier,” Australian-born astrologer Kelli Fox tells SheKnows. “Still, be careful — and make sure your kids confirm that they understand what you say. They may easily pull out the ‘Oh, I didn’t get what you really meant’ card later on.” Clear communication with the whole family will be critical — especially on the 7th thanks to the Mars-Neptune conjunction, which can be misleading and might allow your kids to take advantage in a way you really don’t want. An unsupervised teen sleepover at a friend’s house, perhaps? Yikes. Luckily, the solstice on Dec. 21 marks the northern hemisphere’s shortest day of the year and the arrival of the sun in responsible Capricorn. Phew!

“School performances and end-of-semester activities make this a busy time,” Fox adds, “but it will be a perfect moment to tie up loose ends just ahead of the festivities. On New Year’s Eve, warrior planet Mars arrives home in Aries and a slew of plans, projects and activities will be abuzz to start 2019 with energy and enthusiasm.”

But that’s just the beginning for stargazing parents. Read on to see what’s in store for your whole family in the final month of 2018.

Aries: March 21 – April 19

The first week of December brings daredevil, fun-seeking energies, so buckle up. “It’s the ideal time for pepping up your time with the kids, especially once Venus shifts into Scorpio on the 2nd. The best time to try something new with the whole family is the 7th thanks to the free-spirited new moon,” says Fox. Now’s the time to experience a foreign culture or plan your next family vacation. The spirit of adventure beckons.

However, the tricky Mars-Neptune conjunction suggests you may be underestimating your age and abilities. “As parents, we are not as young and agile as our cherished offspring, so be careful with your enterprises at that time,” warns Fox, so maybe pass on the skydiving.

“As the holiday season gets underway, everyone will get on board with your adventurous spirit, and you can use this energy to brainstorm ideas for plans and projects for the upcoming year with your family,” Fox tells SheKnows.

On the 20th, you’ll be firing on all intellectual cylinders, so a dramatic or brilliant solution to a pressing parental issue might come to mind. Hallelujah! Parenting hack for the win. Bonus, the solstice the next day will ensure your potential breakthrough is solid. “With the holiday season at its peak, and your ruling planet, Mars, arriving in your sign on New Year’s Eve, there’s only auspicious family energy coming your way in 2019.” Fox declares. Sounds like the perfect way to start the new year.

Taurus: April 20 – May 20

For you Tauruses, the start of December will be sweet. Affectionate Venus, your planetary ruler, arrives in your love zone, so make sure your family knows how much you love and appreciate them. Extra snuggles go a long way, even for the family dog.

For those of you who aren’t that great at putting your love out there, Fox says, “A new moon in your passion zone on the 7th will help with expressing your love, but there’s a rather confusing Mars-Neptune conjunction too, so figuring out what your kids want can be tricky. Don’t expect to get too much done at this time.” Plan accordingly.

On the 20th, you’ll be up for anything, so think outside the box for solutions; this influence will make your connection with your kids especially strong.

The following day is the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere. “When the light starts shining again, it will be the ideal time to start making plans with your family for 2019, and on New Year’s Eve, Mars arrives in your spiritual zone, so expect intuitive insights and a better understanding of your offspring,” assures Fox.

Gemini: May 21 – June 21

For Gemini, the start of December means busy, busy, busy! “Venus, the planet of values, affects your daily routines, so making quality time with your family a priority will be ideal. You can use this energy to have the holidays be merrier for everyone,” Fox declares, so bust out the holiday cheer and make the most of it!

On the 7th, your partner might not be as energetic as you “because the new moon falls in your love zone and coincides with a super-sensitive Mars-Neptune conjunction,” explains Fox.

But don’t worry, your partner won’t be the Grinch forever, “December 20th brings an inspiring sun-Uranus trine, which will activate both your love and your objectives zones, meaning that you will be able to get your partner on board the holiday happy express,” reassures Fox. Thank goodness for that, so take advantage and come up with a new plan for 2019.

Thanks to a tricky Mercury-Neptune square on the 24th, a family-versus-career dilemma might come back. “However, stay focused on the holiday spirit and make that time all about fun and festivities — maybe take a short family road trip,” Fox advises.

“At the end of the year, action planet Mars arrives in your social zone, so be sure to celebrate with those you love the most,” Fox adds.

Cancer: June 22 – July 22

The holiday spirit will envelop you and your family at the very beginning of December with sociable Venus arriving in your party zone on the 2nd. Hear that? Party. Zone. School social events are likely to take a lot of your time and attention and will bring lasting memories.

“On the 6th, Mercury finishes its retrograde cycle in this zone too, so conversations with your kids and your partner will come easily and effortlessly,” Fox explains. Finally, any and all lingering issues can now be addressed and put to rest.

“The new moon and the Mars-Neptune conjunction on the 7th brings too much idealism and high expectations,” Fox warns. Be sure to ask your partner for a reality check before making any big decisions.

“Mercury reenters your everyday work zone on the 12th, so you’ll be able to balance quality time with your kids as well as finding the time to get a work project completed. This effort will pay off on the 20th when a go-getting fire between the sun and Uranus activates your work and career zones,” Fox tells SheKnows. Promotion time anyone?

“On the 21st, with the solstice and the sun arriving in your love zone, you will be all about family once again,” Fox adds, so spend the holidays with those you love and forget any haters for the time being. But once 2019 starts and Mars arrives in your career zone, you’ll be focused and ambitious and making plans for the year ahead. New year, new you.

Leo: July 23 – Aug. 22

For the Lion, December is all about family, especially when Venus arrives in your domestic zone on the 2nd. “Communication will become even easier once Mercury finishes its retrograde cycle in this same zone on the 6th,” advises Fox.

“However, some distant family members or in-laws might not feel your love on the 7th, with a super-sensitive Mars-Neptune conjunction. But a very uplifting and fun-loving new moon will occur on the same day, so the holiday spirit will prevail,” Fox claims. So don’t worry about the in-laws. Seriously.

Mid-December brings a busy party season and a whirlwind social life, because, holidays, so party on. “On the 20th, a fire trine between the sun and Uranus brings a stroke of good fortune, so be sure to step out of your comfort zone to reap the rewards,” Fox suggests.

As the festivities get closer, you’ll be more focused on work than on your family, but don’t fret, “On the 21st, the winter solstice and the sun arrive in your everyday life zone, so details start becoming more important than the bigger picture. With that in mind, try not to get too caught up with life’s minutia. It’s all about balance,” remarks Fox.

Be sure to squeeze in some relaxation and spend this holiday season focused on your spouse, kids and extended clan. “Look forward to the start of 2019 as Mars arrives in your travel zone on New Year’s Eve and brings new, exciting plans for the coming year,” Fox says. Did someone say European vacay?

Virgo: Aug. 23 – Sept. 22

“When Venus arrives in your communication zone on the 2nd, your conversations will be more deep and meaningful. Use that time to bond with your kids and ask for more detail about what’s going on in their life,” says Fox. This will come especially easily on the 6th, when chatty Mercury finishes its retrograde cycle, so your kids may actually start listening to you too (for once.)

“On the 7th, there’s a new moon and a super-sensitive Mars-Neptune conjunction in your love zone, which could lead to some confusion and misunderstandings,” Fox cautions. Keep in mind your offspring might be saying something different from what you’re actually hearing. Don’t push. “Negotiations will be best left for another day,” declares Fox.

Mid-December has Mercury arriving in your family zone, so the confusing conversations will stop and harmony will once again prevail in your household. Or at least as much harmony as there usually is.

“December 20 brings a sun-Uranus trine, which opens up a world of positivity and open-mindedness for a peaceful holiday season,” says Fox. On New Year’s Eve, fiery Mars shifts into your passion zone, so expect sparks to fly.

Libra: Sept. 23 – Oct. 22

What’s not to love when luxury-loving Venus arrives in your money zone on the 2nd — and just in time for the holidays! Your youngsters will appreciate your generosity this season. “Mercury moves out of its retrograde cycle in your organization zone on the 6th, so your altruism will reap rewards without you having to spend too much,” Fox remarks.

“With the new moon on the 7th, you will know exactly what to say to your family so the communication gaps will become insignificant. Also, a magical fire trine between the sun and Uranus on the 20th will bring a joyful reward for your efforts,” she adds.

This friendly and sociable vibe will continue through the holiday period, but by Christmas Eve, you may find this friendliness too overwhelming and have to enforce order from chaos if you stretch yourself too thin.

However, the fun and socializing won’t stop. “As we move towards 2019, passionate Mars shifts into your love zone. You may fall in love all over again with your partner or bond with your little ones even deeper under this ardent energy,” says Fox. Take advantage of the holiday warm and fuzzies and give your littles some extra squeezes.

Scorpio: Oct. 23 – Nov. 21

Right at the start of December, Venus arrives in your own sign, helping you to feel much more sociable and gregarious than normal. This will be a big help when it comes to end-of-year school functions, as normally, you’d skip it altogether. “Once Mercury moves out of its retrograde cycle on the 6th, any confusion you’ve had with family members will start to clear up. It’s a brilliant time for bonding with your children and extended clan,” advises Fox.

The new moon on the 7th falls in your money zone, so expect new earning opportunities. “But,” warns Fox, “on the same day, a confusing Mars-Neptune conjunction clouds your risk zone, so if you’re thinking about starting a college or school fund, be careful with long investments.”

Once Mercury reenters your finance zone on the 12th, you’ll see much more clearly. (Phew!) “With an exciting fire trine between the sun and Uranus on the 20th, you can actually expect financial success,” Fox says. Why not give the kids a holiday surprise they’ve been wanting and wishing for?

The winter solstice on Dec. 21 will be a busy yet memorable time for you, with lots of errands and entertaining with your family that will last throughout the holidays.

“Mars, the provider of your drive and determination, shifts into your everyday work zone on New Year’s Eve, so you will be ready for career victories the whole clan can benefit from,” confirms Fox.

Sagittarius: Nov. 22 – Dec. 21

The start of December brings a short period of rest and retreat for you, so for the love of all things good, enjoy every second of it. “Venus shifts into your spiritual zone on the 2nd, which helps you to recharge and reinvigorate. Take this time off, leave your partner with the kids, and get in touch with your inner self before the holidays move into full swing,” advises Fox.

The new moon on the 7th is in your own sign, and you will once again be the center of attention and the hub of your family activities, you party animal, you. “It’s a time to count your many blessings as you ramp up for the holidays. However, a confusing Mars-Neptune conjunction on the same day might bring some jealousy from your partner. Not to worry, as this energy is short-lived and you will be in a fun, lively and sociable mood to offset any negative emotions,” Fox says. Give your partner extra affection to offset any jealous feelings or set up a special date night.

“A fiery trine between the sun in your own sign and Uranus, the planet of surprises, promises unexpected delights on the 20th, so take a risk or a chance if offered,” remarks Fox.

As 2019 approaches, you’ll want to explore your more creative side. “Mars shifts into your fun zone on New Year’s Eve, so take up a new creative hobby and include your kids, as it will bring you tremendous joy in the months to come,” Fox promises.

Capricorn: Dec. 22 – Jan. 19

“With the start of December, loving Venus arrives in your social zone, so expect increased school functions and end-of-year holiday parties.

“Once Mercury moves out of its retrograde cycle in this same zone on the 6th, this energy is ramped up and any prior misunderstandings can be fixed,” says Fox. That damn Mercury retrograde. Nobody liked it anyway.

“During a very spiritual new moon on the 7th, get the kids involved in charity or compassionate work that helps the community as a whole. It can be a reminder that this time of year is for giving,” Fox tells SheKnows. As the holidays get underway, spending time with your family will become a lot more important.

If you’re older, being around the younger generation is healing for you at this time and encourages you to live for the moment instead of fretting about the future. “This feeling will peak on New Year’s Eve, when mighty Mars shifts into your family zone. What a great way to start the new year — thinking about your brood first and foremost,” muses Fox.

Aquarius: Jan. 20 – Feb. 18

Even though the holidays are near, you are still focused on work. “Magnetic Venus shifts into your career zone on the 2nd, and mind planet Mercury moves out of its retrograde cycle here on the 6th — both of which will help you to make some last-minute progress at work,” declares Fox.

The new moon on the 7th encourages you to shift gears for the holiday spirit to enter into your life. “The middle of December will be all about family, kids and their holiday needs. You may feel frazzled, so be sure to take some time for yourself,” Fox offers. “The solstice on the 21st brings the sun into your spiritual zone, and you may have an opportunity to be alone and reconnect with yourself again.”

During the peak of the holiday period, you’ll especially enjoy the chance to debate current issues, but watch out for your argumentative streak. “Keep in mind that kids don’t like the festive family meal served with political speeches,” reminds Fox.

“Determined Mars arrives in your intellect zone on New Year’s Eve, so it’s the perfect time to sign up for a new class or course — and be sure to find a creative way to include the kids,” Fox says.

Pisces: Feb. 19 – March 20

With Venus arriving in your travel zone on the 2nd, you may have the urge to jet off somewhere exotic for the holidays. (The kids will especially love this idea!)

If this isn’t an option, celebrating this festive season in a unique and unusual way will be perfect. “You might even invent new family traditions or blend different cultures in a meaningful way,” suggests Fox.

“However, on the 7th, the new moon occurs in your ambitions and career zone, and this energy persists through the middle of December. There will be much work to be done, and your career will progress if you can handle the pace of both your personal and professional lives. All that hard work will pay off due to an exciting fire trine between the sun and Uranus on the 20th,” Fox tells SheKnows.

The arrival of the sun in your social zone occurs on the solstice on the 21st. “You will finally have time to not think about work and bond with your family so you can all enjoy the holidays,” advises Fox.

Action planet Mars shifts into your finance zone right on New Year’s Eve, so any money-related resolutions you make for 2019 should get off to a head start!
