Jordin Sparks Thinks Her Breast Milk Dried Up Because Of Gum

Jordin Sparks, who gave birth her son, Dana Jr. “DJ” in May, was not prepared for the postpartum experience.

“One thing I wish somebody would have told me is OK, your hormones are being rebalanced. Your hair is gonna start to fall out,” the pop singer, 28, told Us Weekly exclusively. Sparks also had no idea how difficult it would be to maintain breast milk production.

“Don’t have any peppermint gum or the next day, you won’t have any milk. It dries you up. I had no idea,” the American Idol season 6 winner warned. “It was was the craziest thing.” (Sparks was able to restore her supply, but according to Kelly Bonyata, an international board certified lactation consultant, some women claim large amounts of strong mints such as Altoids will diminish production.)

Sparks, who teamed up with Febreze to launch their #FebrezeYourGear campaign, also found herself crying a lot in the early days of motherhood. “I didn’t have postpartum depression, but I did kind of have the baby blues for about two weeks,” she told Us. “I cried at everything.”

The Arizona native shares 6-month-old DJ with her husband of over a year, Dana Isaiah. Becoming parents has only brought the couple closer together.

“We love each other even more,” the star gushed to Us. “It was a learning curve in the first couple months because we were so tired. We were like zombies … But it’s really strengthened us. Like I loved him so much before, but now, seeing how he is with our son, it’s the most amazing thing.”

As for DJ, the infant amazes his mother every day. “He’s pulling himself up already,” Sparks raved. “And he’s babbling. I’m pretty sure he’s gonna be talking soon. I’m just like, ‘Wait a second. We have to baby-proof the house still. It went by so fast.”
