John Legend Gets Real About Diaper Duty

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are one of Hollywood’s most beloved couples. They are cute, quirky and — especially when it comes to parenting — amazingly honest. Teigen has spoken out about parent problems from multitasking and mommy shaming to her postpartum insecurities. But today, it was Legend who had something to say on the matter: In an interview with People, Legend admitted he (gasp!) changes diapers, surprising exactly no one. In fact, Legend told People that he and Teigen have a pretty even split when it comes to all aspects of parenting duties — whether or not they involve baby poop.

“It has never been a thing where it’s like, ‘You have to do it or I have to do it.’ It’s like, ‘Okay, I have him right now and his diaper needs changing, I smell it, I’m going to change him,’” Legend said. “I’ve always been like that, and never felt any hesitancy to do it.” And while Legend admitted that, before Luna, diapers were a foreign concept to him, he “learned quickly. It’s not hard,” Legend said. “Just do it” — and he’s right. Diapers may seem intimidating, but they don’t require a college degree — nor do they require a mother’s touch.

That said, despite the fact that it is 2019, some dads still do not get down on diaper duty. In a recent interview with the Sunday Times, Russell Brand admitted he won’t go anywhere near his little girls’ nethers — nor will he do much of anything, parenting-wise. “Laura does all of it,” Brand told the Sunday Times. Yeah, that method probably wouldn’t work for most — and it sure as hell wouldn’t fly in this here mama’s house.

As for Legend, the reason he spoke about the seemingly benign issue wasn’t because he wanted an award or praise. The EGOT winner is simply gearing up for his Super Bowl debut. Legend will star in a Pamper’s commercial this Sunday, and he may even sing his now-famous “Stinky Booty Song”!

As for all you parents who haven’t changed a diaper: Do yourself (and everyone else) a favor and heed John’s advice. “Just do it.” Because poop is poop is poop.
