Jennifer Love Hewitt: Why I’m a ‘Sap in My Trailer’ on Set

Jennifer Love Hewitt does not want to miss any milestones in the lives of her children, Autumn, 4, and Atticus, 3 — especially while on the set of 9-1-1.

“[It is] much tougher on me. I just miss them,” the actress, 39, recently told Us Weekly exclusively at the 2018 Television Critics Association’s summer press tour in Beverly Hills. “I’m just not used to being away for all those hours, so I just miss them. But they’re having a blast with it.”

Hewitt revealed that Autumn in particular does not have any complaints about her mom’s busy schedule. “My daughter thinks that work is the coolest thing she’s ever seen,” she said. “She loves the craft service truck. My son got to run around the lot, like, go into ‘New York,’ go up and down the stairs and take a picture in front of the police station, which he thought was super cool. So, they’re doing great. It’s just me who’s a sap in my trailer, like, ‘Why can’t I see my babies?’”

The I Know What You Did Last Summer star’s role as Maddie Buckley on the Fox procedural drama is her first acting credit since 2015, when she played Kate Callahan on Criminal Minds. Despite the long break, she did not hesitate to take the role.

“I love the show. I thought it was a beautiful show,” she told Us. “I love the cast. [Co-creator] Ryan Murphy is amazing, and when he calls, you do whatever he tells you to do. … I had a really nice break, off being a stay-at-home mom with my kids. It just seemed like the right time to find something and go back. I also am very lucky I get to be in L.A., get to put them in bed at night and still get to do what I love.”

Hewitt shares Autumn and Atticus with her Client List costar and husband of nearly five years, Brian Hallisay.
