Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert Got Pregnant During ‘BIP’ and Miscarried

One month after announcing that they are expecting their second child together, Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert revealed that they got pregnant during season 2 of Bachelor in Paradise and suffered a miscarriage.

“We actually got pregnant while on the show, and we didn’t find out until after when I was back in Kansas City visiting him,” Roper, 32, said in a Tuesday, February 26, YouTube video. “I just knew that I was late and something felt different.”

The Bachelor alum, who was newly engaged, took a pregnancy test, but doubted the negative results. “I just knew,” she said. When she took another test the next morning, it was positive.

As Roper made plans to move in with her fiancé, she and Tolbert, 31, lost the baby. “At the time, I didn’t really grieve because I just didn’t know really how to process it,” the Colorado native said. “It was so much so fast. In a really bad way, it was almost like this relief.”

She added: “It wasn’t really until after I had Emerson that I realized how much I love my child and how amazing of a miracle it is, and I think I really grieved that child much later.”

The Bachelor in Paradise alums have since tied the knot, welcoming their 18-month-old daughter Emerson in 2017. They announced last month that they’re expecting another baby.

“It’s hard to not be sad because, knowing how much I love Emerson today, I would have loved this baby that much, and I never got a chance to know him or her,” Tolbert said in the video. “It’s really sad to think about what could have been. At the same time, it was never in the cards for us.”

Although the couple haven’t told their family or friends about their miscarriage, they were prompted to share their story after discussing their loss on Kaitlyn Bristowe‘s “Off the Vine” podcast. “It is our story, and it happened, and it mattered,” Roper said.

Roper and Tolbert left a message for their unborn child at the end of the video, writing, “To our little ‘paradise’ baby, we love you so much and think of you often and are so sorry we never got to meet you. But you will always be a part of our family.”
