How Pink Stays in Rock Star Shape for Her High-Flying Performances

Sure, pop superstar Pink can get a party started. But the veteran performer also knows how to jump-start her mornings. “I wake up and do an hour of cardio,” the 39-year-old singer has said. “Then an hour of yoga … I do that six days a week.”

Despite training like an athlete, the 5-foot-3, 160-pound star, who is mom of daughter Willow, 7, and son Jameson, 2, has noted that, by modern health standards, she’s overweight.

Not that she buys into that thinking. “I don’t feel obese,” she’s said. Her advice? “Stay off the scale!”

When she is on tour, food is fuel for Pink, who has been incorporating aerial acrobatics into her performances since 2006. “A two-hour show, plus yoga, cardio and a rig check with the flying apparatuses … I work out four and a half hours a day,” the Grammy winner explained of life on the road.

To set the tone, Pink’s former trainer, celebrity favorite Gregory Joujon-Roche, who has also worked with Gisele Bündchen, Brad Pitt and Tobey Maguire, said he’d start Pink off with an 11-day power cleanse. “It basically recalibrates your taste buds and metabolism, and sets the slate and tone for the hard work ahead,” he explained. “You lose a little weight from this and it makes you so much more motivated in your workouts.”

After that, he put Pink on a healthy diet full of quinoa, fresh veggies and superfoods, keeping her meals “as green as possible.” She’d start her day with a smoothie packed with blueberries, avocado, flaxseed oil, protein powder, probiotic powder, spirulina and coconut water — ingredients that boost energy, metabolism and cellular health.

When she’s at home, Pink still tries to eat healthy. “I’ve done the vegan thing,” she said, but confessed to having the occasional chicken and fish dish. She also sticks to kale chips and an array of vegetables, “the more exotic the greens, the better.”

So what’s her guilty pleasure? “I’m obsessed with halloumi,” she said, referring to the popular Mediterranean cheese that combines goat’s and sheep’s milk. “I grill it for salads with truffle oil and dandelion greens.”

Although she has always been fit, Pink admitted that she let herself go while she was expecting her daughter, Willow, in 2011. “I ate a lot of cheesecake during my pregnancy,” she confessed. “Also anything sour — Sour Skittles, Sour Patch Kids, key lime pie…”

After taking some time off to spend with her baby and her husband, Carey Hart, Pink enlisted the help of The Biggest Loser’s Jillian Michaels and trainer Jeanette Jenkins to jump back into action. “They both kicked my butt more than any other person I’ve ever worked out with,” Pink said.

Pink stayed committed, shedding 55 pounds of baby weight so she could get back on tour — and, arguably, into the best shape of her life. She counted on a healthy gourmet diet delivery service for her daily meals, and trained five times a week for 60 to 90 minutes.

In addition to Pink’s core-focused aerial trapeze work — which she practiced with aerial choreographer Dreya Weber for two or three days a week leading up to her tour — she did yoga, sprint intervals, kickboxing and boot camp.

Still, her favorite form of exercise is performing.

“I get to have fun while I’m sweating,” she said, calling her fitness regimen “a puzzle tha really fun to put together.”
