Hilaria Baldwin Reflects on 'Positives' That Came from Her Miscarriage: 'I Am Forever Grateful'

Hilaria Baldwin is embracing the lessons learned in the wake of her miscarriage earlier this month.

Baldwin said that while it was incredibly difficult losing her unborn child, the tragedy came with a silver lining in that it kickstarted a discussion.

“I’m obviously not happy that this happened to me, but I feel like from a negative situation there was a positive, which was a great conversation came to the surface,” she tells PEOPLE while promoting Baby Bum’s “You’re a Good Mom” campaign.

The yoga instructor, 35, says it’s been eye-opening to see her fellow moms come forward with similar stories after she shared her own personal news on Instagram.

“The reason I shared it was what everybody saw in the results … That is what is extremely important, to see all these moms come forward and people saying, ‘Hey, you know what, this is giving me the courage to say this and I had a miscarriage 40 years ago,’ or, ‘This happened to me last week,’ or, ‘This is happening to me right now,’ ” she explains.

Baldwin and husband Alec Baldwin are parents to daughter Carmen Gabriela, 5½, and sons Romeo Alejandro David, 11 months, Leonardo Angel Charles, 2½, and Rafael Thomas, 3½. Alec, 61, is also dad to 23-year-old daughter Ireland.

Baldwin explains that she’s had easy pregnancies with all four of her children, making her miscarriage even harder.

“Especially, it’s been a very magical experience my other four times around where, of course pregnancy is not super easy but in the grand scheme of things, compared to this, I was always getting good news when I would go to the doctor. It was different to not get the good news, that’s something that I had to make peace with,” she says.

“In some ways I think that this soul came in to start a very healing conversation for people and for that I am forever grateful that this little soul was with us for a while, for a few weeks,” Baldwin adds.

The mom of four took time to reflect further on her miscarriage on Instagram Wednesday, writing in a lengthy post that she is “physically starting to feel like [her]self again” two weeks after undergoing a dilation and cutterage procedure.

“Emotionally I am ok too … when we choose to become parents, we take a big risk with our hearts. Never do we love so intensely – and this is scary, but so worth it,” she wrote alongside a video of the baby’s first sonogram.

Baldwin confirmed that she’d lost her baby on April 9, days after revealing she was “likely” suffering a miscarriage after her unborn child showed no signs of a heartbeat.

“There was no heartbeat today at my scan … so it’s over … ” she captioned the sad post, featuring a photo with her family. “But I have some pretty strong and amazing heartbeats right here.”

“I am surrounded by such love and I feel so fortunate,” Hilaria continued. “Thank you all for listening, for your support, and for sharing your own personal stories. We are stronger together … “
