If you’re a longtime lover of healing crystals, you know all about the importance of recharging them. For those who are beginners, astrologer Nura Rachelle of metaphysical crystal shop Thee Ancients told Bustle, “Starting with beginner’s mind is foundational in setting the right tone with your crystals. You want to establish a relationship with them, acknowledging them as the wise Earth beings that they are.” She explained, “Almost forgetting everything you think you know about a crystal can help you to actually connect with them, much like people.” In other words, you need to cleanse a crystal when you first receive it in order to benefit from it. The same goes for recharging it after longterm use.
According to holistic health expert Amy Mercree, author of The Mood Book: Crystals, Oils, and Rituals to Elevate Your Spirit, all you need to do to recharge your crystals is put them in direct line of the sun or moon for a minimum of four hours. “Soaking up sunlight and moonlight helps your crystals to hold more energy,” she explained to O, The Oprah Magazine.
Once recharged, it's important to set your intentions with your healing crystals
According to Mercree, after charging your healing crystals, the next thing you need to do is set your intentions. “Giving your crystal a job allows you to set your intention for the work you’ll do together,” Mercree told O, The Oprah Magazine. In other words, you want to reprogram it again, just as you did when you first received it. Speaking with Bustle, Energy Muse co-founder Heather Askinosie advises to state your “intention” aloud not once, not twice, but three times. She explained, “The number three represents taking action.” Askinosie suggests that people then thank their healing crystal and “either place it in your space or carry it with you to amplify your intention.”
But just because you have recharged and reprogrammed your healing crystals doesn’t mean that you no longer need to wash them. “Crystals absorb negative energies,” aesthetician Marie Reynolds warned Net-A-Porter. Because of this, crystals should apparently be cleaned regularly. Reynolds recommends “washing them under running water or soaking them for a time in salt water.”
