Halle Berry Reveals the Exercise Tool for a Superfit Body at 51

When it comes to maintaining a supertoned body, Halle Berry proves that you need to werk it.

The 51-year-old Oscar winner shared an Instagram picture on Friday, July 6, of herself working up a serious sweat. While she runs in perfect form, her longtime trainer Peter Lee Thomas stands behind her pulling on a resistance-band that’s wrapped around her midsection.

“I really like working with these very inexpensive bands because they require the use of my own body weight. I want to build strength while staying long and lean,” Berry wrote in the caption. “I never want to bulk up so I rarely use traditional weights.”

The superfit star also explained how to customize a resistance-band workout for different fit goals. “Now, if your goal is to build more muscle mass the bands come in different resistant strengths. So you can actually add bulk if you want to still using your own body weight,” she noted. “And yes ladies, we love our guys with a little bulk!”

She went on to note that the bands are beneficial for her hectic lifestyle. “These bands are so easy to carry that they allow me to exercise wherever I go,” she wrote. “I can work out in my trailer while filming, in my office, on vacation in a hotel room, at the beach, in my living room or just about anywhere.”

Berry shared specifics about her workout when a follower asked for a play-by-play of the resistance-band move she showcased. “I do 20 reps for 3to5 sets but you can jack it up or reduce it according to your individual fitness level and I do the sprinters for one minute intervals 10 times,” she replied.

The actress defended her preference to work out using resistance-bands and her own body weight versus classic weights when one follower questioned her stance. “I’m totally natural and reg weights have bulked me up in the past. I’m only speaking from my point of view,” she stated. “If they work for you go for it. All bodies are different. I just share what works for me.”

When one follower asked what her diet is like, the Monster’s Ball star, who has been battling type 1 diabetes since her early 20s, replied: “Keto diet.”

The actress has been vocal about her dedication to a ketogenic diet because of her diagnosis. The purpose of the low carb, moderate protein and high fat diet is to help the body reach the metabolic state of ketosis and therefore use fat and calories for energy versus sugar, resulting in fat loss in addition to a healthy blood sugar level.

Berry often posts images of her keto-friendly meals with corresponding recipes for her fans. Some of her favorite options include superhealthy eats such as a purium greens and beets juice, green beans and bolognese and Arctic char with olive salsa. “So for years, I have been following the keto or ketogenic diet,” Berry shared on Instagram in January. “I hate the word ‘diet’ so while you’ll see the word diet, just know I encourage you to think of it as a lifestyle change NOT A DIET.”
