Gabrielle Union Says Daughter Kaavia James 'Looks Just Like Dad' But the 'Attitude' Is from Her

Fans of Gabrielle Union know she has one adorable #shadybaby.

The L.A.’s Finest actress, 46, and her NBA star husband Dwyane Wade welcomed their daughter Kaavia James via surrogate on Nov. 7, and her hilarious faces have inspired a hashtag by her parents.

“She looks just like Dad, but I’d like to think the attitude is from me,” Union tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, on newsstands now. “She will stare into your soul and tell you about yourself through her eyes.”

Kaavia has her own Instagram page (which is run by Union and Wade, 37) filled with photos of the serious faces she makes, and the captions couldn’t be funnier.

“I’ve called this meeting today because I see you are not, in fact, bout that life,” the caption of a photo from Jan. 25 read. “When you asked what ‘I will dog walk you’ means, well, that was the end of you. Sorry not sorry #shadybaby.”

In another post from Jan. 22, the caption read, “It’s the ATM not a slow grind, back up! #shadybaby.”

Some of the posts even poke fun at her dad. For Wade’s birthday on Jan. 17, a picture of him and Kaavia was posted to the page with the caption, “Happy 37th Birthday to my Daddy!! Those new teeth are the real MVP #shadybaby.”

Earlier, Kaavia poked fun at her dad’s fashion tastes. The caption of a photo of Kaavia next to a throwback snapshot of Wade read, “I said Daddy lets slay in Winter White … Cut to ?????‍♀️”

“I’m curious if @gqstyle has seen @dwyanewade early fash-SHONS,” the captioned continued. “Man had the nerve to hit em with the hand in the pocket. I cannot. #ShadyBaby.”

Union says one of the funniest parts about the page is that “people interact” with Kaavia as if she’s actually the one writing the captions.

“I’m not exactly sure what to think of it, but it tickles me and my husband,” she says. ” ‘Cause she can barely control her neck or her eyeballs. God bless. You know what? Enjoy it.”

Union has long been open about her difficult road to motherhood, including her adenomyosis (a type of endometriosis) diagnosis and multiple miscarriages. Now that she has her long-awaited baby girl, she wants fans to be a part of her miracle, too.

“If you’ve been rocking with me, in my misery and my pain and my failures, I want you to enjoy my joys,” she says. “If you can’t just sit back and enjoy the miracles without offering every piece of advice Nana ever gave you, it’s okay to unfollow. It’s okay to just enjoy the ride.”

Union is not one to shy away from hitting back at mommy shamers and by standing up for herself online. She wants to show people that they can live their best lives on their own terms and have agency over their body and choices.

“I want to be able to make whatever choice I want to make and not have to answer to anybody but me,” says the Bring It On actress. “As long as I feel good, as long as I feel confident, screw you. Look in the mirror and fix your own life. [I want to] give people that example of somebody who refuses to let anyone dictate what the hell I do or don’t do or say or don’t say.”

She adds, “It’s okay to rock with yourself. I’m my favorite person on the planet. I enjoy my own company. I find that people who don’t enjoy their own company tend to comment the most on other people’s lives — take your life back. The world doesn’t end when you do what the hell you want.”

Since Kaavia’s life so far has been well-documented, Union is scared she might turn into her “biggest hater or troll-er” one day.

“She’s going to be like, ‘Mommy, you know kissing me on the mouth is wrong! I read it in the comments. Did you know you could give me all kinds of diseases?’ ” she tells PEOPLE with a laugh. “Right now she’s just enjoying her tongue and trying to focus her eyeballs.”

“She’s got big dreams,” Union adds. “She’s got a vision board — it’s like eye focus, neck control, figuring out my tongue, burping when I need it, mastering the car seat.”
