The Wales and Sussex children are growing up without knowing one another, despite being cousins — and according to new reports from royal experts, their distant dynamic is not likely to change.
Though Prince William and Kate Middleton could choose to mend their strained relationship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for the sake of the royal children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, as well as Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet — one expert opined that the future king and queen are unlikely to do so solely “for the sake of the children.”
According to OK! Magazine, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said, “[Harry] has written about how he looks back with nostalgia at the time when his family was united and happy” — a reference to his memoir, Spare. “So he does care about his UK family, and I’m sure he would like his children to hang out with their little cousins and to better understand their heritage. But I don’t think the two families will reunite simply for the sake of the children,” Bond averred.

In his bombshell book, Harry wrote about his dreams of bonding with his eldest nephew. “I was an uncle. Willy and Kate had welcomed their first child, George, and he was beautiful,” the Duke of Sussex penned. “I couldn’t wait to teach him about rugby and Rorke’s Drift, flying and corridor cricket — and maybe give him a few pointers about how to survive life in the fishbowl,” he shared.
But not much else of Spare was so idyllic — it was quite the opposite, in fact, disillusioning the public of any ideas of a sterling family dynamic within the walls of Buckingham Palace. Of the feud between the brothers, which started years before the memoir’s release but certainly hasn’t calmed down since, royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight, “My royal sources say that any chance of a reconciliation really isn’t ruled out, but it’s certainly not going to happen anytime soon.” She explained, “Prince William is still incredibly upset with Harry’s autobiography, which, of course, really cast William in a pretty bad light.”
“I’m told by several sources close to the Prince of Wales that William really just cannot find it in his heart at the moment to forgive his brother for what he’s done,” Nicholl continued. Of Kate’s part in the familial fallout, the expert mused, “I think Kate, Princess of Wales, she’s always had a very close relationship with Prince Harry, but she’s been left quite devastated by some of the anecdotes that Harry told in Spare that didn’t cast her in a particularly good light. I think there’s a great sense of betrayal,” Nicholl opined.
It’s unfortunate that the youngest generation of the royal family is and will continue to grow up separately because of bad blood between their parents, but the relationships in the Windsor family have been souring for years before William and Harry’s rift. Time will tell if the Wales and Sussex kids reach out to one another as they get older, or if they’ll continue avoiding the other’s existence in line with the current dynamic.
