Fans of Canadian rapper Drake (Aubrey Graham) highly anticipated his fifth studio album “Scorpion.” Amidst his ongoing drama with rapper Pusha T and speculation Drake has a “hidden son,” the album’s timing couldn’t have been more apropos.
Wait, Drake has a kid?
For those who missed the memo, we don’t blame you. Drake hasn’t responded to any reports of his alleged son (he addresses why in his lyrics as well) and for those that don’t follow his drama with Pusha T, it’s uncommon to hear of it otherwise. In late 2017, rumors surfaced that Drake fathered a son named Adonis with artist and ex-model Sophie Brussaux.
Pusha T and Drake’s feud — which is about 12 years in the making — came to a climax when Pusha T released “The Story of Adidon,” complete with cover art depicting Drake in blackface. Pusha called Drake out for being a “deadbeat dad” with lyrics like “Sophie knows better as your baby mother … A baby’s involved, it’s deeper than rap … You are hiding a child let that boy come home.”

Drake responds to the rumors on ‘Emotionless’
Drake’s album has an “A” and “B” side for a total of 25 songs that run the album an hour and 29 minutes long. The fourth track, “Emotionless,” is the first to address Drake’s relationship with his son Adonis.
He responds to Pusha’s accusation that he’s “hiding his kid from the world” with a simple message: “I was hiding the world from my kid / From empty souls who just wake up and look to debate / Until you starin’ at your seed. you can never relate.”
Drake even addressed why he didn’t respond to rumors about his kids. Rather than “run to the blogs,” Drake said the only ones he wants to tell are the people “I can call.”
“They always ask, ‘Why let the story run if it’s false?’ / You know a wise man once said nothin’ at all.”
2. He uses ‘8 Out of 10’ to remind haters where he stands
By the second verse of the eighth track, Drake already hits back at Pusha’s claim he’s a “deadbeat dad,” while throwing out another reminder he tops the charts consistently.
“The only deadbeats is whatever beats I been rappin’ to / Never a matter of could I or should I / Kiss my son on his forehead and kiss your ass good-bye / As luck would have it I’m settled into my role as the good guy.”
3. ‘March 14’ is ultimately a message to his son
The ultimate admissions come from the last track on the second side of the album: “March 14.” In a song seemingly spoken to his son, Drake explains how he kept things quiet due to his strained relationship with Brussaux and an alleged custody battle. He reveals that he has only met Brussaux twice and only seen Adonis once since his birth.
“Yesterday morning was crazy / I had to come to terms with the fact that it’s not a maybe / That shit is in stone, sealed and signed / She not my lover like Billie Jean but the kid is mine / Sandi [his mother] used to tell me all it takes is one time, and all it took was one time / Shit, we only met two times, two times / And both times were nothing like the new times / Now it’s rough times / I’m out here on front lines just trying to make sure that I see him sometimes / It’s breaking my spirit.”
“Single father, I hate when I hear it / I used to challenge my parents on every album / Now I’m embarrassed to tell them I ended up as a co-parent / Always promised the family unit / I wanted it to be different because I’ve been through it / But this is the harsh truth now.” Drake is a son in a broken home and has been public about attempting a relationship with his estranged father.
“This the first positive DNA we ever celebrated / I can’t forget the looks on they faces / Got the news in Miami that we all now got ones that we raisin’ / Tell Jello bring some, uh, Rosé and Baccarat out for our cheers to the next generation / But this champagne toast is short-lived / I got an empty crib in my empty crib / I only met you one time, introduced you to Saint Nick / I think he must’ve brought you like twenty gifts.”
Drake mentions Christmas, indicating that he showered his new son with gifts the first and only time they met.
“October baby for irony sake, of course / I got this 11 tatted for somebody, now it’s yours / And believe me, I can’t wait to get a hunnid more / Sorry I’m vintage, tryna cover ground / They said that in two weeks you’re supposed to come in town / Hopefully by the time you hear this me and your mother will have come around instead of always cutting each other down.”
While “Scorpion” is certainly Drake’s most revealing look into his new relationship with Adonis, it probably won’t be the last we hear of his alleged son. The rapper is reportedly naming his new sneaker line with Adidas “Adidon,” a combination of the brand name and his son’s name.
