Duchess Meghan Had Hospital Birth, Didn't Welcome Royal Baby at Home

Change of plans! Duchess Meghan welcomed her and Prince Harry’s royal baby in a hospital, instead of delivering the infant in their home, Frogmore Cottage, a source confirms to Us Weekly.

The Duke, 34, and Duchess of Sussex, 37, confirmed that their little one arrived on Monday, May 6. They announced the birth on Instagram before a royal easel was placed outside of Buckingham Palace with the news.

“We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019,” the social media statement read. “Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.”

After the royal pair revealed in October 2018 that they were expecting their first child, a source told Us exclusively that they were “exploring options for the birth” and would not be following in Duchess Kate’s footsteps. The Duchess of Cambridge, also 37, has welcomed all three of her children — Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 12 months — at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London.

“Meghan does not have to deliver at the Lindo Wing and she can deliver wherever she would like,” the insider added at the time.

The Suits alum and her husband kept their birth plans private, though. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby,” Buckingham Palace said in an April statement. “Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The duke and duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

Harry and Meghan tied the knot in May 2018.
