Daughter thanks paramedics for granting her dad his dying wish – an ice cream

A daughter gave a heartfelt thank you to the paramedics who looked after her dying dad as he went into care.

Danielle Smith, who lives in Queensland, Australia, thanked paramedics who gave her dad his dying wish – a caramel sundae.

Ron McCartney, 72, had cancer and was given the ice cream in the ambulance during his final trip to hospital. He died on Saturday morning.

Writing on Facebook , Queensland Ambulance Service wrote how paramedics asked: "if you could eat anything… what would it be? To which Ron replied, a caramel sundae."

The post was shared over 2,000 times and has hundreds of comments from people praising the paramedics for their care of the elderly man, including daughter Danielle.

She commented on the post to express her gratitude: "Thank you so very much to Hannah and Kate, Dad enjoyed this so much and was the last thing he was able to eat by himself.

"Mum and I cannot thank QAS enough for all the help and compassion you have all given towards us".

She added: "Each and every Paramedic we have encountered over the last few months, THANK YOU FROM MUM AND I.. DAD sadly passed away Saturday morning."
