Conflicting Reports About Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Reaction to Queen Elizabeth II’s Sweet Gesture for Lilibet Has Left Fans Confused

While it’s no secret that the royal feud of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex versus everyone else in the family has been going on for years now, there’s one major event that has left fans majorly confused.

A former Palace employee named Paul Burrell told the Mirror on Sept 8 that the late Queen Elizabeth II made a very sweet gesture for her youngest great-grandaughter. Burrell claimed Elizabeth had a birthday cake at the ready to celebrate Lilibet’s first birthday, but Meghan Markle and Prince Harry didn’t show.

“Even on Lilibet’s 1st birthday, the Queen didn’t see her,” Burrell said. “She saw her the day before. But on her birthday, the Queen had a birthday cake made with one candle in it. And they never turned up. That candle was never lit.”

He added, “The next day, she asked if maybe they’d like to come up for tea again and was told they’ve gone.” He then detailed the conversation, saying: “‘What do you mean they’ve gone?’ she said. ‘They’ve gone back to America.’ ‘Oh no, they never said goodbye.’”

(Something to note is that Burrell is not exactly a, erm, beloved source, to put it lightly. Harry himself has called him a “two-faced s**t,” and Twitter users quickly agreed with him on this!)

Now, soon after, an insider told Page Six that that wasn’t true, and claimed “They did see the Queen to celebrate Lili’s birthday.” DailyMail also reported that the late Queen met her great-granddaughter while at lunch with Meghan and Harry.

However, many also noted that Elizabeth was set to go to numerous events during that day, but opted out due to her declining health.

So fans are a bit confused.

For those that need a refresher, Harry and Meghan were in the UK for Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, and also celebrated their daughter Lilibet’s first birthday with an intimate garden party.

Harry and Meghan started dating in 2016, and were later married in 2018. They share two children together named Archie, born May 2019, and Lilibet Diana, born June 2021.
