Channing Tatum Says Daughter is Doing Great Post-Divorce

Actor Channing Tatum wants everyone to know his daughter with ex Jenna Dewan, Everly, is doing just fine despite her famous parents’ high-profile divorce even if we’re not. Because we’re not — let’s face it. This is one of those celeb splits that has us wailing and questioning the existence of true love. Because if two super-hot actors can’t make it work, what chance do we mere mortals have at lasting unions? Don’t answer that.

That was their Instagram reveal from last April that love is dead. And they’re both reportedly dating other people already. Waaah!

Ahem. Anyway, Everly, now 5, is doing “exceptionally well,” according to Tatum in court documents acquired on Jan. 28 by The Blast.

“In my opinion and experience, Everly has appeared to adjust to our separation and living in two homes exceptionally well,” Tatum stated in the document. “I believe that she will thrive even more with structure and consistency because she is happy and more relaxed when she knows a plan.”

The Blast reported that Tatum said he rented a new house after moving out of his previously shared home with Dewan. In the new house, Tatum has “decorated Everly’s room very girly in a fairytale and fantasy theme… with pictures of Everly with both [Dewan] and me on trips.” Tatum also said he had created an “outdoor art space at the house” for his daughter, who is a Jackson Pollock fan.

The documents also reveal that Tatum and Everly love playing tic-tac-toe together and that Everly “has an uncanny ability to win Candyland approximately 80% of the time.” We can relate.

The father-daughter duo also watch American Ninja Warrior and tackle obstacle courses Tatum has created in the new backyard. And it sounds like Everly is taking after both her parents, who met when filming the dance drama Step Up in 2005. Tatum said in the court documents Everly recently started ballet classes and was cast in the role of Lisa in Mamma Mia.

The site reported that Tatum has also proposed a regular visitation schedule, with himself having custody of Everly on Mondays and Tuesdays, Dewan having custody on Wednesdays and Thursdays and the two of them alternating weekends. He has also reportedly asked for each of them to have two weeks of exclusive time with Everly during her summer vacation from school in addition to evenly splitting up Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s. He would like to continue celebrating Everly’s birthday together and spending Halloween as a complete family as they did last year.

Us Weekly obtained additional court documents that state that Tatum and Dewan, who got hitched in 2009 and announced their split in April 2018, will be partaking in a family-centered case-resolution process, which will likely speed up divorce proceedings.

“We look forward to resolving these matters in a timely and straightforward way,” Dewan’s lawyer, Samantha Spector, told Us in a statement. “Nothing in the world matters more to Jenna than the comfort and well-being of her daughter Everly. Everything Jenna has done and will continue to do is with that in mind.”

“They’ve both handled their split maturely from the start,” an insider told Us in October, when Dewan was spotted smooching a new beau right after filing for divorce. “This whole situation has never been contentious, and there’s never been any animosity or hatred toward each other.”

Um, OK, they may be awesome co-parents, but come on. Nobody survives a divorce without at least a little animosity from time to time. Still, it sounds like Everly has two great parents — and a very exciting life ahead of her.
