Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler and Wife Zinzi Evans Expecting First Child

Ryan Coogler‘s next project? Fatherhood!

The Black Panther director and co-writer, 32, and his wife Zinzi Evans are expecting their first child together, as the duo walked the red carpet together ahead of the 2019 Oscars with Evans showing off her baby bump.

The mom-to-be wore a floor-length strapless black dress featuring a low-cut neckline, which showed off her belly, plus shimmery eye makeup and long, dangling earrings.

Black Panther took home three of the seven Oscars it was nominated for Sunday evening: Best Original Score, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.

The couple — who wed in 2016 — previously attended the 2019 Writers Guild Awards on Feb. 17 in Beverly Hills, California, where Evans wore a long-sleeved, belly-hugging teal dress with a high slit and gold heels.

Ahead of the WGAs, celebrity hairstylist Alexander Armand shared a glammed-up photo of the couple to his Instagram account, showing off the “sleek pulled back chignon w/texture” that he crafted for Evans.

“It’s always a pleasure working with this power couple ??,” Armand captioned the image.

Coogler — who also directed Creed and Fruitvale Station, and was a runner-up for TIME’s Person of the Year 2018 — opened up about the potential of becoming a dad in a February 2018 interview with YBF.

“I found I want daughters real, real bad,” he told the outlet of his feelings after working on Black Panther alongside women like Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o and Letitia Wright.

“Like plural,” he emphasized. “I thought, making Fruitvale [Station], I want kids. But [after] this one, I have to have some daughters.”
