Andy Cohen Says Being a New Dad to Son Benjamin Is a 'Dream' but Jokes 'Sleep Is Another Story'

Andy Cohen may not be getting a full eight hours of sleep every night now that he’s a father to a newborn, but it’s not fazing him in the least.

The Watch What Happens Live host, 50, phoned in to the Today show Wednesday morning following PEOPLE’s exclusive cover reveal of this week’s issue, out Friday, where Cohen officially introduces his 1-week-old son Benjamin Allen.

“I’m chill, Hoda,” the new dad says when Hoda Kotb points out that she, Savannah Guthrie and the rest of the Today team have never seen him with “this look in [his] eye” before.

And while “sleep is another story,” Cohen explains that the long nights are nothing new to him, since he wasn’t getting a ton of Zs before Benjamin’s Feb. 4 arrival via surrogate — the circumstances have just shifted.

“I was never sleeping but I just wasn’t sleeping for different reasons,” he says, causing the co-hosts to laugh. “Now I kinda feel like, ‘Oh, these are the reasons I shouldn’t be sleeping!’ “

Upon first meeting his son in the delivery room, Cohen admits the pair just sat and “stared at each other for about two hours” — and now, nine days after Benjamin’s birth, “I just sit and stare at him.”

And the lucky newcomer has been enjoying a barrage of affection since his arrival, according to his proud papa.

“There’s a lot of sweetness and hugs and snuggles happening in the West Village right now,” says the Bravo personality.

Cohen might technically be a single father, but he knows “It’s not easy for a single guy to do this on his own” — and he’s not afraid to lean on his loved ones.

“It takes a village,” Cohen tells Today. “I really wanted him, and the fact that he’s here and he’s so perfect and he’s in wonderful health … I have great gratitude for my surrogate and all the people who helped me get to this place.”

“I’m just thrilled. It’s truly a dream,” he raves, adding of Kotb, who welcomed daughter Haley Joy in February 2017, “Hoda has been a great inspiration for me.”

Jokes Carson Daly later in the chat, “Hoda’s $30 an hour, for babysitting.”
