The Grammy winner, who is an advocate for normalizing breast-feeding in public, has spoken in length about the benefits of a mother’s milk. “I’ll breast-feed, and I’ll be breast-feeding until my son is finished and he weans,” Morissette declared on the The Billy Bush Show in 2012. “I think it affords the child, when he grows up, to have a lot less therapy to go to. For me, I protect his safety and his well-being and his attachment. That stage of development is a very important stage.”

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends “exclusive breast-feeding for about 6 months, followed by continued breast-feeding as complementary foods are introduced, with continuation of breastfeeding for 1 year or long as mutually desired by mother and infant.”

But breast isn’t best for every mom. As acclaimed pediatrician Dr. Ari Brown previously told Us Weekly: “We want to have a baby who’s getting their nutritional needs met. And that is what you are achieving the you give your baby formula.”
