A New Development in Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas' Divorce Suggests They May Be On the Path to Amicable Co-Parenting After All

Despite the drama that’s unfolded between Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas since the musician filed for divorce from the Game of Thrones alum, a new development in their separation indicates they might be able to move forward in a civil manner after all.

According to People, the former couple’s lawyers attended a hearing on Tuesday, during which they announced Turner and Jonas have agreed to a four-day mediation to sort through the dissolution of their marriage. The agenda for the mediation, which will begin on Wednesday, was said to include a custody arrangement and plan for co-parenting their kids, daughters Willa, 3, and Delphine, 1.

The actress’ lawyer alleged that the singer wants to pursue evenly split joint custody, saying, “The parties are both seeing their children, which is what we all want.” Though Turner and Jonas are seemingly on the same page after a contentious few weeks, their lawyers requested that the court case move forward along with the mediation in case the pair can’t come to an agreement.

Since the moment Jonas’ filing hit the media, his and Turner’s divorce has been nothing but messy. His PR team immediately began alleging she was more interested in partying than being a mother, which was largely regarded as a tactic built on falsehoods to paint Jonas favorably. After he allegedly removed their daughters from Turner’s care without her knowledge or consent, flying them from the UK to the US, Turner sued Jonas, claiming he was withholding both the girls and their passports. The actress also alleged that she found out about their divorce through the news, not through her estranged husband.

A judge ordered both Turner and Jonas to reside in New York until their divorce is sorted, and days later, Turner submitted various documents to the court in support of her claims. Among them was a letter Jonas had penned to a homeowner in the UK with a property he and Turner wanted to purchase as a family home. The Jonas Brothers musician wrote the idyllic note in June, and when the homeowner consented, he and Turner put a 10% deposit down on the house in July — just months before Jonas did a 180 and abruptly filed for divorce.

We sincerely hope the estranged couple is able to amicably settle their separation — as one of the last couples we ever expected to divorce, seeing their relationship come to a bitter end has been especially heartbreaking.
