90 Day Fiance’s Pregnant Paola Mayfield Gets Slammed for New Look

Pregnant Paola “Pao” Mayfield is having a blonde moment. And many 90 Day Fiance fans do not approve. The comments began pouring in on Sunday, November 18, shortly after the 31-year-old — a natural brunette — shared a photo of her bleached hair.

“Hope that’s a wig cause you shouldn’t bleach your hair while pregnant,” wrote one person in the comments. Added another: “Lay off the hair treatments (chemicals) when you’re pregnant, fool I’m a male and know this.” A third reminded the Columbia native, who is expecting a boy, that she is supposed to “be careful about exposing the baby to fumes.”

So was Mayfield in the wrong? According to American Pregnancy Association, most research shows that the chemicals found in dyes are not “highly toxic” and are safe to use during pregnancy. But experts typically recommend waiting until the second trimester when most of the baby’s organs have finished developing. Meanwhile, vegetable dyes and semi-permanent colors are the best bet for expectant moms as they don’t typically contain chemicals such as peroxide or ammonia.

In July, the fitness model and her husband, Russ Mayfield, shared their pregnancy news exclusively with Us Weekly. The Oklahoma-based couple, who celebrated their five-year anniversary, gushed to to Us that month about their rock solid relationship.

“We’re being more patient with each other,” Pao revealed at the 90 Day Fiance Season 6 Mixer in October. And Russ agreed, telling Us: “I feel like our goals are aligned.”

Pao has previously come under fire for posting racy pictures on Instagram. On November 5, the TLC personality shared a clip of herself wearing just a thong and a sports bra. “No, I’m not worried what my kid’s friends will say about me when they see my photos or videos,” she wrote in the caption at the time. “I’m not changing just because I’m pregnant or becoming a mom.”
