58 Celebrity Baby Names We Wish We'd Thought of First

You’ve got to love celebrity baby names. From this week’s latest star spawn, Raddix Madden, way back to the likes of Moon Unit Zappa, they’re ahead of the curve for sure. After all, choosing a name for your child can be so much fun, especially if you get creative with it. But it can also be overwhelming. I mean, this name will follow your little for the rest of their life. Plus, when it comes to names, everyone seems to have an opinion. The good news? Baby names are constantly changing and evolving, which means you have a lot of options out there. And luckily for us normals, celebs tend to be major pioneers in choosing truly out-there baby names people love to make fun of — plus unusual names that are just super-cool and avant-garde.

And hey, there’s no shame in getting some name inspo from Celebland and stashing it away for your own kids (whether they’re currently gestating or just imagined in your distant future). If you started considering fruit names after Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter Apple or ran through all the colors of the rainbow when Beyoncé named her daughter Blue, we won’t judge.

For every beyond-weird celebrity baby name, there’s a cool and beautiful one we would totally name our own kids — like the ones ahead.

A version of this article was originally published in August 2016.

Raddix Madden

Cameron Diaz and husband Benji Madden (secretly!) welcomed their baby daughter Raddix Madden, announcing her arrival on January 3, 2020 — but not much more in terms of details. No news yet as to the meaning of this baby name pick, but we think it sounds pretty rad.

Crew Gaines

The fifth addition to the Gaines clan, Crew, was born June 21. And while he has big shoes to fill, his name makes him stand out already.

Isla Rose Earnhardt

Dale Earnhardt Jr. and wife Amy Earnhardt welcomed their first child to the world in 2018, and her name — Isla Rose — is absolutely beautiful.

Mia Love

While Mia is a relatively common name and has been for the last several decades, the name Mia Love adds a unique twist and a nod to mom. Seriously good choice, Robin Thicke and April Love.

Stormi Webster

After months of pregnancy rumors, Kylie Jenner announced the birth of her daughter with Travis Scott. Stormi was born just a few weeks after another excellent Kardashian-Jenner baby name hit the scene: Kim Kardashian West's daughter Chicago.

Rumi Carter

When Beyoncé gave birth to twins — one girl and one boy — she and Jay-Z named their daughter Rumi Carter, which is pretty much the most fabulous little name we’ve ever heard.

But we’re talking Beyoncé, here. Would you expect anything less?

Sir Carter

And… Bey and Jay named their little boy Sir Carter. Totally perfect since he's basically music royalty.

Blue Ivy Carter

And we can't forget about little Blue! The twins' sister has a gorgeous and unique name too. While Blue Ivy's parents have never clearly explained why they chose this name for their child, Beyoncé posted an excerpt from A Field Guide to Getting Lost on her Tumblr, which many believe inspired her to choose Blue as her daughter’s first name.

Forest Sage Palmer

Teresa Palmer and her partner, Mark Webber, went full hippie when they named their baby — and we're loving it.

There's no doubt little Forest Sage will feel right at home in the woods.

Calliope Maeve Day

Supernatural's Felicia Day was able to keep her pregnancy secret until the near end, but once Calliope Maeve was born, she was ready to tell the world. And can you blame her?

Mabel Brand

Comedian Russell Brand is known for being somewhat outlandish, but he and wife Laura Gallacher chose a sweet, traditional name for their baby girl.

Dimitri Portwood Kutcher

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis named their second baby Dimitri Portwood. Dimitri is a Russian baby boy name from the Greek Demetrius (the god of farming and fertility).

The name Dimitri is so cute, and likely a nod to Kunis' roots — she was born in Ukraine (in the former Soviet Union) when it was occupied by Russia.

Their son's middle name, Portwood, appears to honor Kutcher's stepfather, Mark Portwood.

Lula Rose Gardner

Liv Tyler and her fiancé, Dave Gardner, welcomed their first daughter with this gorgeous name. It's simply lovely and a nice new twist on other popular L names like Lily, Lucy and Lila. Fun fact: While it's not even currently in the top 500 most popular baby names in the U.S., in 1880 Lula was the 39th most popular name for girls. We predict a comeback.

Frankie Afifi

Former Scrubs star Sarah Chalke and her fiancé, Jamie Afifi, welcomed their daughter with a cute and quirky name — Frankie. We love the nickname feel. It's girly but with a little bit of grit.

Milo Kielty

Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty kept things short and sweet with the name they chose for their first child — Milo. It's a name that packs just the right amount of punch.

Aidan Clinton Mezvinsky

Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky named their first son Aidan Clinton; he was followed by siblings Charlotte and Jasper to round out this family of strong names with Gaelic, French and Persian origins, respectively.

Ray Ling Song

Lisa Ling and Dr. Paul Song gave their baby girl a name that is as bright and sunny as they come — Ray Ling Song. How sweet is that?

Josey Dorsey

Former Glee cast member Naya Rivera and actor Ryan Dorsey consistently documented Rivera's pregnancy as well as the birth and first year of their son, Josey, on social media. Rivera and Dorsey settled on this name before they even married — after Dorsey shared he’d always wanted his first son to be named Josey.

Otis Sudeikis

There isn’t much we don’t love about celebrity couple Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis. They’re funny and down-to-earth and appear to adore their roles as parents. Otis was the perfect name for their first child — and Daisy Josephine is his little sister.

Luna Stephens

After publicly struggling with infertility for some time, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend welcomed their daughter, Luna Simone Stephens, into the world in 2016. They haven’t explained their name choice, but we do know that Luna is the name of the Roman goddess of the moon. Little Luna was followed by baby Miles in 2018.

Jack Pratt

Jack is a great classic name, and Chris Pratt and Anna Faris’ choice is even sweeter since he was named after Anna’s dad. Jack was born nine weeks early, and his parents have spoken openly about how scary that time was for their family.

River Rose & Remington Blackstock

We love Kelly Clarkson's daughter's nature-inspired name, River Rose.

And the fancy-sounding name she chose for her son, Remington Alexander, is just as cool.

Aden & Ariah Housley

Sister, Sister star Tamera Mowry has chosen two names we love. She named her son Aden, a Hebrew name meaning "handsome."

Her daughter, the younger of the two, is named Ariah, a Hebrew name meaning "lion of God."

James Reynolds

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds shared that their choice to name their daughter James was to honor Reynolds’ father, who died in 2015. Their younger daughter is named Inez — just as adorable.

Moses Martin

Moses is definitely not a baby anymore, but this biblical name is still a favorite. Moses is the son of Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow and is brother to Apple Martin. When asked about their name choice, Paltrow shared how much they were inspired by the story of Moses in the Bible.

Ella & Grace Wahlberg

With six Wahlberg kids, it wasn’t easy to settle on our favorite baby names in the bunch. Still, Ella and Grace are classically beautiful, and it's easy to see why Mark Wahlberg and Rhea Durham settled on these for their daughters.

Harper & Gideon Burtka Harris

Twins Harper and Gideon, children of Neil Patrick Harris and husband David Burtka, were born via a surrogate. Harris says he and Burtka settled on these names the old-fashioned way: by browsing the internet.

Haven Warren

The name Haven was chosen for Jessica Alba’s second daughter for a very special reason: Haven was born still inside her amniotic sac. When Cash Warren, Alba’s husband, commented that the baby was born inside her “safe haven,” they knew they had found her name.

Finn, Liam, Stella, Hattie & Beau McDermott

When it comes to Tori Spelling’s baby name choices, it's impossible to pick just one. Finn, Liam, Stella, Hattie and Beau make up her large family with husband Dean McDermott.

Flynn Christopher Bloom

Son of Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom, Flynn Christopher Bloom was named after someone who was very special in his mother’s life. Kerr’s high school boyfriend, Christopher, was killed in a car accident after they had dated for two years. We love that Bloom was comfortable naming his son in honor of Kerr’s high school sweetheart.

Hank Baskett IV

Old family names can be a drag if the name being passed down is super-old-fashioned or kind of strange. Kendra Wilkinson and Hank Baskett lucked out with their son's family-heirloom name — we love the classic Henry and the nickname Hank.

Saylor Cutler

Just because Kristin Cavallari confessed to naming her third child after a dog she met while pregnant, that doesn’t mean we are ready to hate on this adorable name. Saylor is the daughter of Cavallari and Jay Cutler and little sister to brothers Camden and Jaxon.

Wyatt Kutcher

Lately it has become trendy to give baby girls names traditionally given to boys. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis picked up on this trend when they named their daughter. We love the combination of Wyatt with her ultra-feminine middle name, Isabelle.

Bodhi Green

It isn’t uncommon for parents to search for names that reflect their spiritual convictions. Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green did just that when they named their second son. Bodhi is definitely an unusual name for a baby, but this little bodhisattva is rocking it.

Journey River Green

Fox gave birth to her and Green's third son in August 2016 and named him Journey River Green.

The baby name flows (see what we did there?) nicely and completely fits with Fox's flower-child vibe.

Emerson Stone

Celebrity chef Curtis Stone and Lindsay Price really hit the nail on the head when they settled on Emerson Spencer for their second son’s name. Emerson is a traditional English name that means "brave" or "powerful."

Milo & Elizabella Bugliari

From her support of breastfeeding moms to her no-shame policy on the postpartum body, we think Alyssa Milano is killing it at this parenting thing. So it is no surprise that we love the names she chose for her children. Milano’s older child is named Milo Thomas, and her daughter is named Elizabella Dylan.

Etta Daly

Etta is a beautiful old-fashioned name that Carson Daly chose in honor of wife Siri Pinter's grandmother. We think this name is darling and hope to see it grow in popularity.

Briar Rose Christensen

Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen are super-private, but Christensen did share why they chose Briar Rose as their daughter's name. According to Christensen, both he and Bilson are huge Disney fans and were inspired by the original name of Sleeping Beauty.

Alena Rose Jonas

Kevin Jonas and wife Danielle picked this sweet name for their first daughter because they wanted something that was different but not too out-there. Alena is a Greek name that means "light."

Olive Barrymore Kopelman

Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman found their first daughter’s name in a baby book — but not a baby name book. Drew shared that after reading that her baby was the size of an olive when she was three months pregnant, she knew the name was a perfect fit.

Sloane Haggerty

Ben Haggerty, more commonly known as Macklemore, and his wife and tour manager Tricia Davis named their first daughter Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty. Sloan is a Gaelic name meaning "warrior."

Leo Thames Newman

Leo Thames, the second son of Jaime King and Kyle Newman, was given his middle name because of the love the couple has for the River Thames. Leo is an English name meaning "lion" and a perfect fit for a rambunctious little boy.

Jovan Jovanovic

Is there anything sweeter than a little boy who shares a name with his daddy? Daphne Oz named her son Jovan after her husband, John Jovanovic. Jovan Jr. goes by John most of the time.

Lawson & Lillian Nail

Many parents give twins names beginning with the same letter, and the twins of country singer David Nail sound perfect together: Lillian and Lawson.

Brooks Stuber

Model Molly Sims and husband Scott Stuber didn’t have an easy time settling on this strong name for their baby. Sims shared that Stuber had several rules in place for naming their son, including that his name be easily pronounceable for a sportscaster. Huh.

Calvin Thile

Grimm star Claire Coffee chose this darling name for her first son. Her pregnancy was written into the plot of Grimm, so does that mean little Calvin is a television star as well?

Wilder Faison

With six children, you would think Donald Faison would be running out of creative names for his children. Maybe that is why he gleaned a little inspiration from a fellow actor when he named his youngest daughter Wilder Frances.

Silas Timberlake

Justin Timberlake and wife Jessica Biel chose a biblical name meaning "man of the woods" for their first son. His middle name, Randall, is after Timberlake’s father.

Zoë Nicholas

Rookie of the Year star Thomas Ian Nicholas and his wife DJ Colette named their daughter Zoë, meaning "life," and her middle name is Dylan.

Emilia Van Der Beek

James Van Der Beek and his wife, Kimberly Brook, welcomed their fourth child in 2016. They chose an alternative spelling of popular girl name Emily.

Owen Hubbell

Owen is the second child of Heather Morris, best known for her role as Brittany on Glee. Owen is little brother to Elijah, and the name Owen means "young fighter."

Rylen Brees

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has four children with his wife, Brittany. It’s a tough competition, but our favorite Brees baby name was given to his youngest, Rylen Judith. It seems Brees and his wife are sticking with their tradition of quasi-rhyming their kids’ names, since Rylen is little sister to Baylen, Bowen and Callen.

Marlowe Martino

Marlowe Mae is the daughter of actor Eva Amurri and Kyle Martino and the granddaughter of actor Susan Sarandon. When asked how she felt about her new granddaughter’s name, Sarandon admitted it was unusual but that she loved it — especially since it wasn’t a vegetable or a city.

John Nash Chatham

John Nash goes by Nash full-time and is the son of actor Wes Chatham and television host Jenn Brown. The couple settled on the name Nash after spotting it in an article in Sports Illustrated long before they knew Jenn was pregnant with their son.

Frances & Winnie Fallon

Host of The Tonight Show Jimmy Fallon and his wife, Nancy Juvonen, welcomed their two daughters into the world just 16 months apart. Both girls were born via surrogate and given some of the most darling names. Winnie Rose joined their family in 2013, and Frances Cole came the following year.

Reign Disick

During her third pregnancy, Kourtney Kardashian was sure she was carrying a girl and planned to name her Rain. When she found out she was expecting a boy, she couldn’t let go of the name, so she simply changed the spelling and felt it was the perfect fit for the youngest of her three children with Scott Disick.

Everly Tatum

When your parents are Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum, you're pretty much royalty — so it's only appropriate their daughter's name sounds like it belongs to an enchanted princess. They call her Ev for short, which is equally adorable.

Mateo Bravery & Sophia Rosalinda Bratt

Benjamin Bratt and Talisa Soto named their second child Mateo Bravery Bratt, and it's certainly the name of a strong little warrior.

Their daughter's name is Sophia Rosalinda Bratt, which also has a beautiful ring to it.
